He's not a franchise player. He's won six man of the year once, good for him and he's a great player but he's not a franchise player. He's only been an All-Star twice in 10 years.

D Williams
Rose
James
Wade
Howard
Dirk
Durant
Aldridge
Paul
Bryant

I know everyone will question Aldridge, but I think he's currently the best PF in the NBA and he does it on both sides of the ball. He commands a double team on offence now, and his defence has always been above average. He can do it all.

franchise players are the tier 1 players of the league. or they're not their yet but you know it is very highly realistic they'll reach that tier
players who are franchise players right now:
chris paul, lebron, wade, durant, howard, kobe, dwill, rose, blake, love, john wall

players who were once franchise players:
duncan, dirk, garnet, pierce, nash, kidd

thats a joke right? hes been absolutely atrocious and so has his team. hes shoooting less than 39% from the field and less than 10% from 3. he also has an alarmingly high rate of turnover.

so? we're talking about franchise players, not who's playing like an allstar this year. he has the skills to be a top tier nba player. he's not their yet, he's only in his 2nd year. and that team isn't ideal for ANY point guard let alone a young one. he's the one player on that team that's untouchable. just look at how well a vet and a top 5 pg in Dwill is doing in New jersey.
can you honestly say if we had wall, that he won't be our franchise player? if so then our opinions differentiate and further discussion on this topic won't solve anything.

Still can't buy into this. POR is only 3 games above .500 in spite of the fact that the roster around Aldridge is pretty damn good. He's avging 23/9 on 50% shooting with about a steal and a block per game. Decent numbers but I'd still like to see more before putting a "franchise" tag on him.

Could easily argue that Bosh had been better than him this season (partic. with Wade out) and we all know he's not a franchise talent right?

My current list off the top of my head would include....

Rose
Pierce (getting a bit old though)
Dirk
D12
Lebron
Wade
Kobe

I'm on the fence about Durant and Paul...

I'd definitely take Durant and Paul over Pierce.

At this point in their careers. Yep. Without a doubt..... But Pierce in his prime brought more to the table than those 2 IMO.

Paul is the general, but if I had to rank franchise players I would put Griffin right at the top with Lebron, Durant, and Rose.

At any moment Griffin can do something previously thought impossible, which brings tremendous confidence to his teammates. He has an athletic advantage over his opponent every nigh, his presence alone makes his teammates better.

Add to that;

He's humble, hard-working, and has high bball iq.

He'll start creeping up in the GM Poll for "Who would you pick to start a franchise". It won't just be Lebron and Durant, starting next season you'll Lebron, Durant and Griffin.

Book it.

And Pierce is a champion and a hero, but he's never been a franchise player.

Griffin will likely make it on every franchise player list, but he's not quite there yet. He still needs to round out his game, utilize his teammates more, and improve defensively. He's close, but not at the level of James, Kobe, Wade, Rose, etc.

And Chris Bosh as a franchise player? Seriously? Bosh is a very good player, but he's not the type of player that can carry a team.

I also disagree with you on Pierce. He's not a franchise player today, but he was in his prime.

We've been down this road before, but maybe you weren't around for it.

No one player can carry a team (perhaps Lebron is the exception).

Kobe's teams failed miserably when he was left alone to carry the Lakers.

Wade's teams failed as well without Shaq and pre-'Bron/Bosh.

KG couldn't make it out of the 1st round until he got some help.

The Celts struggled mightily when Pierce was the only option there.

D12's team got embarrassed last season by the Hawks because his supporting cast crapped the bed.

And the list goes on.

It's impossible to know what Bosh could or could not have done here with adequate help because he never played with another all-star alongside him.
