Just curious. I initially sided with the owners, but their alleged demands have grown more and more ridiculous.

This is actually a very good question.

I tend to side with the players, because even in the "real world", I try to cheer for the little guy, and not the massive corporations. However, the amount of money that is argued over is obscene. I don't agree that the owners should rake in all the money at the players' expense, however, contracts have gotten ridiculous over time too.

As a matter of principle, I am siding with the players, however, I do also realize that there are tons of problems on both sides of the fence. I may even be inclined for some sort of revenue-sharing type of thing like they have NFL and MLB, simply because it helps keep the league competitive. Look at the NFL this past season, there was so much parity. Part of the problem in the NBA now, is the gap between the haves and have-nots. This will be a huge issue after what happened in Miami this past year.

I guess all and all, I tend to side with the players, however, they've also gotten a bit ridiculous over the past years and pushed the envelope, and now are too greedy. I just hope as a fan, that they find some kind of middle ground that allows them to put a product on the floor, and strives for more fairness.

Amen!!! But I don't know if thatll stop them just may do a 1 year deal and see how it works out for them if they're desperate enough! Lol I side with the owners...we are all employed our bosses and owners prob make hand over fist while we are the show or the grunts..it is what it is...these players are making so much money their grand kids kids are well off...how many of us can say that?? I think some of the team profit should go to ticket subsidization so everytime salaries go up our ticket prices dont and profit sharing amongst teams so everyone can compete! its a little far fetched but if they could work on a player grade system for free agency maybe that would work ..sounds stupid but hey I'm slowly losing interest in the nba and getting sick and tired of hearing this player wants to play with this one type of collusion...maybe I'm a little old school or blue collar but let the players play and let the owners and gms build the dynasty's ....imagine a world where we could talk behind the scenes and say why don't you and I work in this department or this job ..doesn't happen ..time to get a little closer to a taste of reality players..sorry this rant was long lol

I don't support either side frankly. I personally can't identify with either side so really all i want is what's best for my team. Which i suppose makes me side with the owners by default. Either way I am feeling like an Expos fan in 1994.

Really? I think it's a little different since that team was on pace to get 105 wins and basically got screwed out of a World Series run.

it's more a connection with how a lot of expos fans just stopped caring post-strike. My enthusiasm for the NBA in general has gotten lesser each year for a while now.

Fair enough. If they did go on strike I would be really disappointed as a newer fan and definitely feel more apathetic.

The baseball lockout tore my heart out as an expos fan.

In this case, if both sides can move towards giving all teams a fair chance, then I can live with whatever happens. If it ends up just being about the big money makers trying to keep what they've got at all costs, or get more at all costs, then it's going to be disappointing.

Wow - not to derail the thread, but I'm stoked to see other Expos fans...what a sad, sad year that was.

It was actually such a satisfying year as a fan to finally see your team never coming up short, but just getting more and more dominant. I had almost given up on seeing such a thing after Rick Monday. And I loved this particular make-up of that incarnation. Felipe Alou made me happy just by his own existence. And of course Pedro was just a joy. And it looked like they were just scratching the surface. Then - sorry - we're canceling the season. My life was baseball at the time. I grew up playing little league down in Shouldice when they had actual dugouts (I'm remembering that you're from Calgary, so I had to throw in the reference). Afterwards I followed Moiso's playoff performance, and a few years of Pedro's post-season play, and then zip.

Sorry but I wouldn't side with either, they're all greedy pieces of shit, nobody deserves the kids of money players get to play a sport they supposedly love, and the owners milk people for every penny they can get.

or, if we spent money we could build a pretty good team too. NHL hard cap is seriously gay, you fuck up like burkie did and your doomed for years, and cant fix your mistakes. The way the NBA does it is great, we just need to for one spend the money and go for it!

Whatever allows to even the playing field more.

I'd also be in favour of adding a 'franchise' tag type of addition to the cap.

Much as i hate to admit it, this would be a boring league if a 'franchise' tag were allowed. It works in the NFL where there are 20 free agents on every team. It wouldn't work in the NBA, where most teams really only have one free agent that matters. Fans like a steady diet of big names changing jerseys. Even when it's a universally hated move like Miami, it generates a lot of interest. That's integral to the league's success imo.

Also, I don't think players should be forced to spend their primes on crappy franchises. Hasn't Cleveland kind of validated LeBron's decision to leave town? And the NBA is so much better for KG and Ray Allen's decisions to get the hell out of their no-hopers.

How so? Losing LBJ, Big Z, Shaq certainly cntributed to a downfall... and now there is zero interest in the Cavs around the league... what is validated?

imo, they were terribly managed whilst Lebron was there and it's now showing. Why should Lebron be forced to spend his best years with them? Do something to stop the formation of super-teams but don't bail out crappy management.

i can't support either side at the moment
i think both sides are going to get an eye-opener regarding little support from the fans
this league is clearing becoming one filled with "have" and "have not" teams and that's NOT a good thing for the long haul
trades are being run by whining players and their agents etc etc

imho the infrastructure of this league needs a major overhaul before it deteriorates any further
as a fan of basketball in general, i would welcome a shutdown
