Default Who are better athletes, NBA vs. NFL

Me and my friends constantly fight about this, I know this might be a little bias considering were on a basketball website but whatever. Who do you guys think?

I mean average so that would include every single player on both sides for every position.

I would say NBA just because the NFL has a lot of over weight players. More fatties in the NFL. But I guess as like Benzo said it depends on what position in the NFL, which as a statement imo tells me that there better athletes in NBA.

Which sport has more athletes in their respective sport percentage wise?

It depends on what your definition of athlete is?
If you're talking about a player who can run for a long period of time and jump high, than the nba player is the more athletic one... But if you are looking at all around strength, speed, power, and agility than you have to go with nfl.

All in all, I think it's nfl hands down.

So getting beat around makes one a better athlete?

Definitly depend on position.
wide receivers are pretty athletic. You see them doing some crazy aerial moves sometimes. Along with thier strength, speed, and agility.
the best guards in the NBA couldnt keep up with them.

The amount of energy it drains out of you, yes it can. Being able to withstand that an entire game (from a linemans standpoint) you have to be in amazing condition. As for most DE's and LB soar around the field all the time.

Majority of NFL players are amazing athletes IMO.

in that case, rugby players are the best athletes in the world by a long shot.

WOW, i am surprised by the numbers.....
athleticism and being fit are not the same. a marathon runner can be fit as hell but he doesn't have to be athletic at all to succeed. athleticism to me is most importantly hand-eye cordination, agility, and among other stuff.
to me, being big and strong and run fast is NOT AS athletic as doing a crossover, spin move, dunk.
heck, dribbling a basketball is already hard enough for the average person...

sounds like you're discussing co-ordination as much as athleticism.....

There are offensive tackles than can run a 40 faster than half of the NBA. And these guys are 300+ pounds.

Your just talking about the line men, some of which are insanely fast for their size and much stronger

I'd say NFL players have better chemists in their corner so I'd give them the edge.

If you look at body type most NBA players could problably suceed at QB, WR, CB, or SS for the the most part. Problably same goes for NFL players vice versa. However with exceptions like guys like Shaq (in his hey day) I don't see many players banging in other positions. Maybe you'll string out a few DEs in the NBA but thats about it. I really don't don't get the question entirely but I have much respect for some of the things NFL players do even though I'd say Basketball is more of a pure sport akin the the collision sport that is American Football

There are also many linemen that have 40" verticals. If going by factors of strength, speed and explosiveness, then NFL players definitely have the edge.
