2014 NBA playoffs: The Indiana Pacers' burning questions - ESPN

No a real long mention of Hibberts insecurities, confidence or mental problems really to speak of, which I think makes a huge difference, but tons to say about Stephenson. To long to shorten for here.

Management decisions. Bringing Bynum in, getting rid of Granger in favour of Turner, not keeping Psycho T, totally messed with their chemistry and identity. Paul George reading his press clippings too much didn't help.

All those plus Hibbert not keeping his mouth shut and Stevenson going overboard on the selfish play that basically nullified Hill (who was an animal last year in the play-offs but is now just a spot up observer in the corner - which I think was the biggest detriment to that team)

Vogel hasn't done a good job in developing their bench the past 2 seasons. Plus Hibbert is a mental midget, who's overrated on both sides of the ball. I'm not going to hate on Lance, because Lance is more of a reason why they're winning games than losing them. PG and DWest are fine, and Hill can be useful at times, but really is better suited to be a 6th man.

It really comes down to their bench though. Their dropoff is in the late 1st and early 2nd quarters, and late in the 3rd when they have to bring in the subs, because their starters have a very positive + - overall.

Logo change perhaps? New paint scheme and all the trimmings? I'd start there.

To be fair, it was Bird that messed up their bench, esp after the all-star break leaving Vogel little time to develop anything imo. Bird did many things to that team's bench all season that had a negative outcome but more so after the break:

Bye-Bye Tyler - you were our gritty in your face agitator and spark off the bench and we're not going to replace you.

Welcome Copeland - to the bench.

Scola has been serviceable and on occasion has had an impact but that's about it. He hasn't been a catalyst either off the bench.

Feb 20 - Granger traded for Turner. On the Pacers, Turner dropped his efficiency to .397, his apg to 2.5, his rpg to 3. Defense sucked. Can't depend or play Turner when it counts - bet the Pacers wished they had kept Granger for his play not so much for his "vet" presence in the locker room.

Mar 11 - Hibbert and Bynum - AB signed but really amounted to nothing but being sent home. I'd like to say he had a negative effect on Hibbert as his numbers pre Bynum were 11.3/7.3 with a .463 FG% to after Bynum of 8.5/4.1 with a .356 FG% To be fair to Bynum though, Hibbert's 5 games prior to Mar 11 - right after the all-star break from Feb 19-Mar 9 - Hibbert's numbers had started to decline already, down to 8.2/3.8 with a .436 FG%. Bynum certainly didn't help Hibberts self-confidence (as he seems to keep it in a wet paper bag) but I don't believe he had this dramatic impact on Hibbert as some thought (including myself).

1 out of the 5 changes seemed to have had a positive impact with the bench, or more succinctly, 4 out of 5 have had a negative impact on the bench.

I dunno, to me Vogel has not had it easy with his bench being up-heaved and adjusted poorly let alone the crap going on with the starters since the all-star break. The Pacers seemed to have had a lot of drama after the break, I won't get too much into all the rumors as we've heard them now though the nasty ones are sticking around, esp the ones of PG or Bynum sleeping with Hibberts fiance Valerie; or PG's statement of a girl he used to "talk to" making up sh** about them being together; to Lance being scapegoated for the team's difficulties as he dropped his apg from 5.1 to 3.7 though it might help if Hibbert, Turner and some others could actually hit something consistently; to Hibbert calling out a "selfish team mate" though it seemed more of a personal statement and not a comment of on the court play. Whatever off court stuff that has gone on with Hibbert and the team, it certainly seems to have effected Roy the most on the court.
