What's wrong with the Lakers?

They looked ugly in San Antonio, they looked horrible against the Heat. What is actually wrong with them?

I know Kobe called out his teammates last week and wanting to beat the message into them, I know Ron-Ron seemed to shrug off comments about him playing poorly but there's something wrong with them.

So, to my basketball brethren, what is wrong with the LA Lakers?

jeffb 12-29-2010 10:11 AM

Nothing is wrong. This is what most were asking about Boston a year ago. The Lakers will be fine and I still say they go to the finals this season.

Snooch 12-29-2010 10:31 AM

obviously it is because they dont have ed davis.

Dark Knight 12-29-2010 10:33 AM

Lakers are taking the Spurs approach. Cruise through the regular season on auto pilot and then be ready to play come playoff season.

fresh n' spicy 12-29-2010 10:37 AM

i think right now its a lack of confidence. I mean Bynum is just returning from injury he still needs time to find his game. Come playoff time though the lakers are going to be the lakers. Odom is having a phenomenal year, gasol is still an all-star, ron artest could be a bit better, kobe is kobe, and derek fisher is a veteran who knows how to play well in big moments. They need to find their rhythm offensively and just need to get in sync with each other. Its a case like the miami heat earlier this year they were hovering around .500 and now they are almost unbeatable i expect the same from the lakers heading into the playoffs.

Someguy again 12-29-2010 10:41 AM

its a slump, just like the washington capitals right now

Lakers have a tough road ahead.
Dallas and San Antonio are better teams than them this year.
Expect to see Texas representing the West in the finals,.

bjjs 12-29-2010 11:52 AM

There are quite a few players in the league having success guarding Kobe one on one. We saw it with Wade, and last night Ginobli. The free tickets to the free throw line aren't being handed out to the superstars this year like it has been in years past.

Claudius 12-29-2010 11:56 AM

I know Kobe was saying that they're not playing like a team right now and that outside influences are distracting them.

I'm surprised at how bad Gasol has played recently. He just doesn't look comfortable.

Acie 12-29-2010 11:56 AM

It's probably the coach.

Gee... after he goes what? 8/27 last night? Ya think so Kobe?

Ball Don't Lie 12-29-2010 12:39 PM

Gasol isnt playing well because Kobe is running the Kobe offence and not the Triangle again. Every posssession he isos from 23 feet out on either wing which causes limited spacing and his teammates not knowing where to be. If hed run the offence insteadof taking 30 shots and turning it over 10 times vs the best teams then theyd play better. Hes got Bynum Odom and Gasol downlow, if he actually used them theyd never lose. Kobe needs to play more like Magic Johnson and feed the post and less trying to be like MJ

Kobe will die before he plays a consistent team game.

It's just not in his nature... much like A.I. and MJ before him.

Nah, it's not like they have Triano. But seriously, last night Kobe was 8-27. He took 27 shots out of 57 shots takem by the starters. He looks selfish again.

INSIDER 12-29-2010 01:17 PM

its kobe's mentality.
he feels he is the be all and end all of the lakers. so of course, if the team is losing and in a slump, he feels that he is the only one that can bring the team out of that slump... he is the only one that can save the team, and that he must carry the load and single-handidly win it.
and unfortunately, Pau Gasol (the reason they started the year off so well) is being underused, and ignored.

well that, and they looked damn tired.

TORaptor4Ever 12-29-2010 01:18 PM

I see that your sarcasm detector is broken jeff... lol....

thought 12-29-2010 01:24 PM

it's not a case of pau being underused. he only put up eight shots in the SAS game but that is more of an abnormality than anything else. dude is just struggling, he's exhausted from playing 40+ minutes a night for the first two and a half months of the season that Bynum was out. it's all catching up to him now.

none of his go-to moves in the post are working out for him, and his struggles on offense have been translating to his defensive game where he's been getting eaten up recently. keep in mind there was talk for the first month and a half of the season that pau gasol was the lakers' MVP.

Kind of makes you appreciate what Bosh had to go through here on his own for 7 years doesn't it?

Not directed at you "thought".... but as always... some people here need to realize these things.

FoldedLaundry 12-29-2010 01:38 PM

I think the frustration from the Miami game came with them to San Antonio. Kobe said that he blamed himself for the loss at SA.

RaptorsandBuckeye FaN 12-29-2010 01:41 PM

Not playing Laker basketball. Give the ball to Bynum and Gasol inside and used the advantage they give you. Also doesn't help that Bynum is not fully healthy and Gasol doesn't look like Gasol. But there is still plenty of time to get that fix.
