I heard PJ on the radio a few days ago and he mentioned that he felt making the All NBA Team was more important than making the all star team.

Do you agree?

Doesn't one kinda go with the other. All-star players are usually all NBA somewhere, no.

Not necessarily.

Bosh has been and All Star for 5 years. I believe he's been All NBA just once.

Good point. I'm just saying that the All NBA teams are filled with All-Star players, I mean if you're an All-Star it almost automatically puts you in the conversation.

All-NBA is more prestigious.

You can make an all-star team one season if you have a breakout year.... but if you're all-NBA you truly have the respect of the critics.

One is a popularity contest, the other is about basketball.

All-Star takes the fans into consideration, which waters the thing down. Otherwise they would be pretty equal.

What makes writers and sportscasters opinions more valid than fans?

You still get biased voting. see: Chuck Swirsky 2007 ROY voting

fans go beyond bias and often vote based on hype, or nationality, or what a player did two or three years ago. I can live with Chuck's one vote.

All-NBA for sure. It is actually an award whereas making the All-star game is just fun for shits and giggles

All-NBA voting is done based on a larger sample of games. It's very unlikely that a player could play well for only 30 games and get named to an All-NBA team. In my eyes, that alone gives it more credibility.

All NBA awards are more prestigous, and the All-Star game is more glamorous. But the All NBA awards definatley have more importance, simply because Gilbert Arenas was #1 in Eastern guard voting for 3 straight seasons, even though he hadn't played in hardly any games throughout those years. (I heard he had one of the top selling jerseys in China, so they all got happy hitting the Gilbert button over there)
The coaches and other head cheese in the NBA pick the hardest working kids for the ALL NBA awards, not just the kids with the flashiest game and popular name.

But at the same time, fans vote for the all-star starters and some players that are voted for most often don't deserve to be year. I fi remember it was one or two years ago were t mac and iverson made the all-star game but they didnt deserve to be there. ALL-star voting is just a popularity contest.
