Default West's forthcoming free agency

Quote:
Among the immediate concerns for the Indiana Pacers heading into the Eastern Conference finals against Miami is the state of David West's right calf. One of the longer-term worries, though, is West's forthcoming free agency. The Pacers' veteran leader openly loves his situation in Indiana, which certainly gives Indy justified cause for optimism when it comes to re-signing the 32-year-old this summer. Yet the whispers are already swirling that Chris Paul's Los Angeles Clippers, in particular, are going to make a hard run at West in the offseason.

What are the chances that David West rejoins Paul in LAC....and if he did, wonder what that means for Jordan/Griffin and who would move to the bench....my monies on Griffin if it happens, dude can't defend himself out of a wet paper bag and personally, with so much emphasis on Griffin being a focus on offense, I think that's stunted DJ's growth. I would actually look to trade Griffin for somebody with a little less flash and a little more substance - especially on the defensive side. Would make the Clippers much better imho.

They should get West and then send the great white hope to Canada for a top 10 SG.

All three are overrated. West is being made out to be some prized peach this offseason. I'd still take Blake out of the three I mentioned.

I would take West, his defense surpasses all of them and his offense is steady - have to honor his shot. Plus him and Paul were crazy good together - though West is not as athletic anymore he certainly has plenty to offer still- for instance, versus Griffin he can offer something Griffin can't - some semblance of a bb iq.

Griffin is a so one sided.

BG's energy and youth make up for that.... he may not be a defensive star but he's not as one-dimensional as other young players we know. As for West, his D isn't that good, is it? Maybe I need to watch more Indy ball, who knows. He's been steady in Indy, but it's a really good fit for him too.

i don't think the Clippers can get him. sign and trade something like Butler + Bledsoe? Indiana could use a Bledsoe but then they are going into the season with no legit PF. They'd be a much worse team.
I think (if West decided to leave) they'd be better off spending their cap space on a replacement like Millsap; trade Granger to make cap room for Millsap if necessary.

But tbh, I'd be stunned if they don't re-sign West.

re West vs. Griffin, i'll take Griffin, now and in the future.

Griffin is all flash, no substance. When it counts in the play-offs and the game grinds to a half court game Griffin is as useful as a boob on a 2x4. His decision making is extremely poor, he can barely hit anything from 2' out, he can't create for himself or others in the slightest, his passes out of the post when they do come are not the best and he's dumb as a post in the post. I'll take West and kick Griffins ass with him every time.

seriously? people would take griffin over west? i don't want to question whether or not you watch basketball, but do you serious watch basketball?

griffin's game needs to evolve past his athleticism big time. the dude is all hype, and it's fizzled big time. i think i'd rather have Bargnani out there for a stop over griffin.

I'd say it's completely parallel to taking DD over Tony Allen at this point because of age. Is that so far fetched? To suggest that Blake Griffin is a joke of a pick right now over David West is a bit absurd.

Yes it is to me for the simple fact West has several more years to play and doesn't depend on athleticism solely. Griffin is one blown knee (already once now) from losing the only tool he has - jumping. And I would take Allen over DD any day as well - including now as well. With Griffin and DD you have so many other holes that are created that makes it very difficult for the other players to cover. Imagine how much more effective DJ would be with West than Griffin.

West would be huge for us, he's like the all-star version of Amir but with a jumper.
