Default Westbrook out 4-6 weeks

Quote:
Marc J. Spears ‏@SpearsNBAYahoo 2mThunder say Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery & is out 4-6 weeks. RW had recent swelling caused by a loose stitch.
Could be trouble for OKC if he can't stay healthy.

Seems like a freak thing, a loose stitch. Unfortunate, but I think we'll see a monster month from Durant.

Apparently they tried to repair the cartilage instead of removing it during the 1st surgery, hoping RW would come back quicker that way. Hopefully he comes back healthy.

Harden was one of the main reasons they lost to Miami in the finals

they won't win with westbrook trying to be a superstar player, unless he completely changes the way he plays to become that superstar player.

i would definitely trade westbrook if i were them. His value is pretty much as high as ever. Could get an excellent center and maybe a good role-player in addition, even a pick as well.

It's only a month or so, could've been way worse. It might hurt their seeding a little bit, but they'll still be one of the top teams in the West. Not a big deal if he comes back healthy. And even without him, they still have a good team.

please tell me he's not suggesting westbrook is either better or more important or more the leader than durant!!?? any of those would be utterly absurd.

Sounds like he's saying that Durant will suck without Westbrook and that he's more important.

it's because westbrook is such a beast, he demands so much attention that it lets durant do his thing and quietly score points and heat up. those two just work well together on offense.

every player has some massive flaws, but for some reason everyone only sees russel's. i guess that's the problem when you're placed along side a seemingly perfect star.

classic case of grass is always greener...there's just no way you get better trading away westbrook - guaranteed he's the best player in any deal. as charles barkley says the team who gets the best player wins the deal.

OKC is already a case study in this by trading away harden

Really? There was nothing wrong with what Beverley did. He tried to steal the ball from Westbrook before OKC took a time out, which does work from time to time because the PG dribbling the ball is often non chalant bringing it past halfcourt because he assumes that the other team wont go near him due to his team calling a timeout. There was nothing dirty about that play, you're basing your opinion on the result of what happened. It's like calling a regular foul a flagrant foul, which happens a lot now in todays NBA, because a player didnt land right and got hurt. The result of the play shouldn't convict the defensive player, the original action should.

I don't think it's farfetched. Westbrook's athleticism and intensity can be absolutely dominating at the pg spot.

If Oklahoma didn't look absolutely attrocious once Westbrook went out with Durant playing one on five from the top of the key every single possession, I might agree you. But the proof is in the Houston comeback, and the 4 straight wins by the Grizz; Westbrook last year was perhaps as valuable to OKC as any player was to their team.

However, I did mention a few times during the regular season that despite OKC's record, they looked pretty bad against any of the elite teams and struggled to take care of business at home. Perhaps they're both overrated. Considering everything though, I would take Durant over Westbrook in a heartbeat, but Westbrook to me without a doubt is also a top 10 player in the league.

durant has no massive flaws, westbrook does. I don't only westbrook's flaws in the league as a whole, but i do in okc, coz durant hardly has flaws! I fail to see how westbrook's inefficiencies, low IQ and high-volume shooting are a great offensive combo with one of the most efficient and best shooters of all-time.

they traded the wrong guy!

I don't agree with you or chuck. overall player quality is not the only factor in value on a trade. how the player fits the system of their new team is massively important. Also, player rep and actual ability do not always correlate, that can affect the value of the trade. sell high buy low. An extreme example would be if indy had traded someone other than george for harden. (not talking realistic here, imagine 2k14 with "force cpu trade" turned on!) They woulda got the best player but he doesn't fit their style at all, he would've stunted the growth of george. That trade doesn't improve indy imo, and they got the best player and an unbalanced trade.

don't get me wrong, as i've said about westbrook a few times, he's an insanely talented guy and an athletic beast. It's the IQ man, and personality; how he uses his talent. But his rep is above where it should be imo. Often bigs have a slightly or much lower rep than they should coz they don't do flashy high-rep bringing stuff on court but they can provide big stats and help their team's style; inside-out bball, extremely effective with a top-quality big-man. Coincidentally, okc need a C........
