Default WC PLAYOFFS; ROUND 3: (1) LA LAKERS VS (3) PHX SUNS

STARTERS:

LAL

Derek Fisher
Kobe Bryant
Ron Artest
Pau Gasol
Andrew Bynum

PHX

Steve Nash
Jason Richardson
Grant Hill
Amare Stoudemire
Jarron Collins

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

LAL

Jordan Farmar
Shannon Brown
Lamar Odom

PHX

Goran Dragic
Leandro Barbosa
Jared Dudley
Channing Frye

Key Matchups:

Biggest key is if Robin Lopez is healthy enough to play game 1 and if he can be effective in game 1 on. If he can give them a good 20-25 mins, I'll say PHX has a CHANCE.

Amare Stoudemire vs the Lakers frontcourt. Yeah, I know I included this exact same matchup with Boozer too, but it holds true here as well. Amare has got to attack the basket at every opportunity and get 25+ PPG for the Suns to have a shot.

PHX pick and roll game. With the Lakers length, the Suns pick and roll game could really get slowed down. Theyve got to continue to spread the court accordingly and make LA pay for their strongside zones. Which goes to my next point...

Suns 3rd scorer. JRich has to continue his playoff tear. Having Hill step up as THE defensive guy will enable him not to play Kobe which will give him all the more energy to keep playing great offence. Hes got to continue to get 18+ PPG on good percentages for the Suns to have a chance.

And last but not least, the Suns need to man the fuck up and be as aggressive as they were in the SAS series in rebounding the ball and protecting the paint. They were shockingly good in doubling the post, and thatll need to be even better vs Gasol and a Lakers offence that has better spacing than the Spurs offence, which means the Lakers can make them pay for the double teams.

If I was to only write one line for a key for the Suns to win though, itd be they have to play near perfect offence and shoot amazingly to win this series.

PREDICTION:

LAL IN 6. Again, too much size unless Lopez comes back and has a good impact, and Amare Stoudemire goes for 38 ppg like he did vs the Spurs a couple years ago...but the opposite effect happening in that the Suns would actually win...hopefully.

[jinx]We all know LA is going to win. [/jinx]

Lakers just have too much size down low. Even if Lopez comes back he doesn't have the experience and tools to guard Gasol or Bynum in the post. Kobe should be able to contain Richardson beyond the arc. Nash is going to have to put up some of the best numbers in his career to win this one and the Suns are going to have to play run'n gun like crazy because they have no chance if they play at the Lakers pace.

Lakers in 5. I'm pulling for the Suns though because I want Nash to get a title.

Yes it should be the Lakers but I think they will go in overconfident like SAS.
In many areas the Lakers are better except at PG where Phoenix depth will be a factor.
Amare is more talented offensively than Gasol.
Depth is for Phoenix they wore out the Spurs.
If hill can keep Kobe under 20 in most games then Phoenix has a real chance.
Going with heart over brains Phoenix in 7.

This series starting on MON sucks ass. Spacing it out like this where a team gets a week off is a joke.

Lopez better be back after all this.

How does Collins have a starting job on a semifinals team? Him and his brother have to be the most useless players league. I hope Lopez is back that way the Suns don't have to play that fatty Collins.

Saying that... Lakers in 7

Frye needs to have a hot hand for Suns to do well in this series. They need him to stretch out the LA bigs so they can open up the paint.

Kobe Bryant will have had a week of rest come Monday, so everybody needs to look forward to classic Kobe Bryant in this series.

The only way Phoenix has a snowball's chance in hell of playing with LA is if Robin Lopez can come back healthy and Channing Frye goes nuts from deep to draw LA's bigs away. Amare will provide no resistance for Pau Gasol down low and unless Lopez comes back Bynum will have fun with Collins.

My take is pretty much exactly the same as Thriller's.

Lopez gives the Suns a better chance but it's still a tall order. They're the deeper team (IMO) but their role players (Frye, Dudley, Barb, Amundson) are going to have to play like gods and the Suns will have to be on fire to have a chance at taking the series.

My heart says Suns in 7..... but my head says Lakers in 6.

Yeah, why is there such a long gap for this series? Boston just played, and they have to play before LA/PHX.

Phoenix bigs:

Amare about 6'9" or 6'10" tops

Frye about 6'11" but he shouldn't even count because he doesn't guard the paint anyway. He averages 0.5 blocks.

Lopez about 6'11" or 7'0" but he is averaging 2.5 fouls in 19 mins of PT which means that he is still a bit raw and too unexperienced.

Gasol about 7'0" or 7'1"

Bynum about 7'0" or 7'1"

Odom is 6'10"
