Default WC PLAYOFFS RD 3: DALLAS wins - (3)DAL MAVERICKS•4• vs (4)OKC THUNDER•1•

STARTERS:

DAL

Jason Kidd
DeShawn Stevenson
Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki
Tyson Chandler

OKC

Russell Westbrook
Thabo Sefolosha
Kevin Durant
Serge Ibaka
Kendrick Perkins

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

OKC

Eric Maynor
James Harden
Daequan Cook
Nick Collison
Nazr Mohammed

DAL

JJ Barea
Jason Terry
Peja Stojakovic
Brendan Haywood

Key Matchups:

This is a really simple series to break down. I'm not going to get into the specific matchups and such because only 1 thing for each team matters for them to win:

OKCs OFF aggression/penetration vs DAL's 3 pt shooting- Whoever wins this, wins the series. If OKCs big 3 is able to find holes in the Dallas defence and get to the rim and draw fouls and score a ton of points in the paint, the series will be theres. On the other side, if DAL is able to effectively screen and pop/ effectively space the floor on Dirk Isos and kick it out to open 3 pt shooters, they will win the series. Both teams play much better defensively when this aspect of their game is going, especially at home.

PREDICTION:

OKC in 6. Everything is telling me to pick Dallas, but I just see OKCs athleticism and quickness causing a ton of problems for DAL's guards, and DAL wont be shooting anywhere near as many wide open 3 pt shots with the quick Thunder running at them vs the slow methodical Lakers. I hope I'm right in the prediction, but I think I'm gonna end up being wrong. Either way it should be a really fun series to watch.

I am wondering how Dallas will look after such a long break between games. It could give OKC a bit of an edge in game 1. Stealing the first game on the road would be huge for the Thunder's confidence. But I still like Dallas in 6 or 7.

A changing of the guard is taking place in NBA, most prominently exemplified in the Heat/Celts series. However, OKC will have to wait at least another year, because the few remaining competent bball stars of my youth need rings (Dirk and Kidd, obviously... and Peja, I guess). Nostalgia says Dallas in 7.

I won't watch a single game because I don't like either team. I'll say Dallas in 5.

I really want OKC-CHI in the finals but I have to say Dallas in 7. This should be a great series.

I think Dallas in 6, primarily because of Westbrook's youth vs. Kidd's experience. Westbrook needs to learn still and not having a veteran back up has hurt them a bit.

Also, with the way Dirk is playing, who's going to stop him? He looks like a man possessed.

ibaka on dirk will be interesting. he's long, quick and tenacious. dirk will score on him, undoubtedly, but he's going to have to exert a hell of a lot of energy to do so.

I think Dirk is tipping the scales in favor of Dallas. Sure he will have to work a little with Ibaka and maybe even matching up with Durant's length. But there is nobody on this OKC team that is going to make him work on the Defensive end. All he has to do is box out and stay out of foul trouble. Also OKC is an iffy perimeter defensive team that got lucky matching up with Memphis. Dallas has so many perimeter scorers, it going to be tough for them facing an opponent that spreads the floor so much.

The OKC hopes rest on the shoulders of Westbrook, who is going to have become a score first PG after being scolded for taking so many shoots against Memphis.
He has a big advantage on both Kidd and JJ with length and speed. Hey, maybe if the run high pick and roll with Ibaka they can force Dirk to commit some fouls on the switch.

I think there is to much dirk to much depth for OKC to handle. That 2nd unit for Dallas could be a starting unit for alot teams. Dallas in 6.

JJ Barea, Terry, Stojakovic, ?, Haywood. Starting? Seriously? They wouldnt win a game vs any NBA team

The only potential starters in that group of 4 are Terry and Haywood. Haywood would start for a lot of teams just out of sheer necessity for length and size in the NBA. Terry obviously because hes a good player. Barea is too small and inconsistant to start, and Pejas career is almost over. Lets not go overboard here. Theyre a good 2nd unit but Carlisle has put them all(besides maybe Haywood at times) in a position to excel in the system that he runs...which is basically pick and roll/spot up every play, which fits 3 of their games very well.

I think Barea could start for a few teams and as old as Peja is he very well could have started here had BC allowed him to be used. And if Caron was healthy either he or Marion would be a part of that unit. No where did I say they would winning a championship. And more then like as a whole they would be pretty terrible, but split up as individuals they could be starters.

So far Ibaka looks like a pushover, on both ends. Dirk is killing.

My prediction is holding true so far. DAL 0/6 from 3 and its slowed them down bigtime.
