You're off by one year. The season that the Lakers beat the Nets in the NBA Finals was the year that Sacramento took them to 7 games in the West Final. The Kings could easily have been the champs that year. The West Final was the real final.

It was 2001 when the Lakers went 16-1. Their only loss came to Iverson...I mean.. the 76ers in game one of the Finals. Iverson was huge and the Lakers had a bit too long of a break between their last series and the first game against Philly. Iverson caught them totally off-guard and went off.

That Lakers team just coasted during the regular season in 2001 and played like they didn't give a fuck. They rested guys, took defensive possessions off, then, when the playoffs started, they just steamrolled the competition. "Oh, the playoffs have started? Ok, we will play defense now". The 2001 Lakers are/were notorious for having the worst (by far) regular season defensive rating of any NBA champion of the past 30 years. It's the one team you can point to as being in the bottom half of the league in defensive rating during the regular season while still winning the title. Strange year.

They only had a 5 game series in the first round. Lakers went 15-1.

First;

Lakers are as flawed as the Clippers & Utah.

1. Bynum's pick and roll defense in that series was attrocious. Westbrook is going to have a much harder time against SA.

2. Ibaka completely outplayed Gasol (outplayed Nowitzki as well). Duncan plays very well against Perkins & Ibaka.

3. Unlike LA, SA not only has a confident pg, but a world-class pg.

4. LA has a weak bench. Jordan Hill, Barnes, Ebanks etc. wouldn't even find themselves in the rotation on SA.

I don't think the key to this series is Westbrook, Durant, etc. Like somebody else said, these guys have been here before. They're ready and they're not going to be intimidated.

The key to this series is Danny Green and Kawhi Leanord and how they play on the road.. They still have not been in an intense playoff battle. If those two play intimidated & gun-shy in OKC - it could be a long playoff series. If they're on their game, knocking down threes - it could be a sweep. If they don't play well, and then Manu & Jackson don't play great either, I could see OKC winning in 6 or 7.

But I think SA is going to play well - I'm pulling for the sweep, but realistically - SA in 5.

You're right! That was before the best of 7 games series was applied to the first round!

It will take the Spurs and Pop some figuring out to do to get the game slowed down to their own pace. I think they can get run late in the 2nd

even when the spurs have nothing, they'll will it into something. i absolutely love that about them. there's some much effort going into everything, even their turnovers and bad shots...

A little bit of everything so far. Pretty sloppy, but still so much easier to watch than last night's game.
