Default WC PLAYOFFS; RD 1: DALLAS WINS--(3) DAL MAVERICKS - 4 VS (6) POR TRAIL BLAZERS - 2

STARTERS:

DAL

Jason Kidd
Deshawn Stevenson/Roddy Beaubois
Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki
Tyson Chandler

POR

Andre Miller
Wes Matthews
Gerald Wallace
LaMarcus Aldridge
Marcus Camby(possibly Nic Batum for smallball lineup)

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

DAL

JJ Barea
Jason Terry
Deshawn Stevenson/Roddy Beaubois/Peja Stojakovic
Brendan Haywood

POR

Brandon Roy
Rudy Fernandez
Nic Batum/Marcus Camby

Key Matchups:

Multiple defenders vs Dirk- This is the most intriguing aspect of the series IMO as POR potentially has 3 guys who can D up on Dirk somewhat effectively. I expect Wallace to start on him and Batum to be on him for good portions of the game as well. The only chance you have vs Dirk is doubling him or putting a long athletic 3 on him and luckily for the Blazers they have 2 of them. LA may be on Dirk at times as well but I think he'll have less of a success rate vs him than the other 2. If POR can keep those 2 guys on Dirk and they do a good enough job to not have to double and open up things for DAL then this series may be over earlier than people think. DAL on the other hand have no answer for LaMarcus Aldridge. Chandlers a very good help defender, but Aldridge has had 28, 30, and 35 vs the Mavs this year, and has shot an extremely high percentage against him/them.

The starting lineups situation- This is another interesting aspect of the series.(and really these two teams are the only teams in the playoffs that could change their lineups multiple times throughout the series) With DAL, theyre not going to have any chance in the playoffs in terms of making it deep without Beaubois having a Devin Harris type of breakout playoffs. With Carlisle talking about putting Stevenson back in the starting lineup, this doesnt bode well for DAL' chances IMO in the longrun if they even win this series. Dirk has no secondary scorer in the starting lineup, at least with Beaubois if he brings his A game he can resemble somewhat of a second scorer, but he really hasnt shown that all year which is the problem. For POR, do they start the game small, or do they match up with DAL's big lineup? I like their small lineup in there better to start the game and force Dirk to expend more energy trying to run up and down the court in a more up tempo game.

Jason Terry- Terry is going to have to be huge in this series as DAL's second scorer, and he may run in to trouble vs Roy and the Blazers other athletic guard/forwards with Batum/Wes Matthews. I really see PORs length causing a lot of problems for Barea/Terry

Kidd vs Miller- Miller torched Kidd for 52 a few months ago, but playoff Kidd is a lot different. I expect Kidd to play big minutes this series with Barea likely struggling vs PORs length, and I expect him to outplay Miller overall.

PREDICTION:

POR in 6. This is essentially the NYK/BOS series for the West. Its hard to predict due to the recent changes of the lower seeded team, in this case, POR, and due to the top seeds struggles. I expect PORs quickness length and athleticism to give the Mavs a ton of problems in terms of scoring the ball, and POR has so many options on offence theyre hard to match up with. I see the soft label and playoff struggles continuing for DAL, and an offseason of media rumblings of Dirk not being happy etc.

This could be really entertaining. I'm cheering for Dallas, but I think Portland has a decent chance of advancing.

Either Dallas in 5 or Portland in 7. If Dallas lets Portland stay in it, and hang with em in the series and they get playing confident like they have been, I can see Portland having a big upset. I won't even bring the playoff struggles of Dallas into this.

Rootin for Portland myself, like them a lot.

Another great Western playoff matchup. The first round of the Western playoffs look really good for the most part.

I like Portland in 7.

Dallas in 6, although there is some serious potential for an upset here.

They had me worried there for a second. I'd like to see Dallas in the finals if the Lakers don't make it, hopefully Dirk can finally get his ring.

I don't see what makes someone deserve to "get his ring" when hes never been able to carry his team to anywhere in the playoffs with plenty of talent around em, constantly chokeing and failing.

Sorry but I don't think he deserves a ring at all. Hes had plenty of talent around him and years to get it done.

Strictly biased statement though as I dislike dirk and hate Dallas as a whole, I also think Cuban is a douche as a person.

Of course, I hope you didn't mis-read my post as Dirk deserves ANOTHER ring. That would be silly, Nash is next in line on my list.

That would be the biggest F-You to Stern, if Cuban's team got a ring, lol
