WC PLAYOFFS RD 1 : (4)MEM GRIZZLIES vs (5)LA CLIPPERS

STARTERS:

MEM

Mike Conley
Tony Allen
Rudy Gay
Zach Randolph
Marc Gasol

LAC

Chris Paul
Randy Foye
Caron Butler
Blake Griffin
DeAndre Jordan

KEY ROTATION PLAYERS:

MEM

Gilbert Arenas/Lester Hudson
OJ Mayo
Quincy Pondexter
Dante Cunningham
Marreese Speights

LAC

Eric Bledsoe
Mo Williams
Nick Young
Kenyon Martin
Reggie Evans

Key Matchups:

MEM lack of offensive chemistry vs Clippers lack of concentration on D. Which one will sync first early in the game? MEM struggles out of the gate due to their starting lineup not playing with each other a lot during the regular season, and the Clippers struggle on defence because their frontline doesnt rotate quick enough, and DeAndre Jordan jumps at anything.

The frontcourts- If MEM wants this to be a short series, then MEM needs to go to their frontcourt on offence and often, especially Gasol vs Jordan. If they're able to get Jordan in to foul trouble, or Gasol just scoring on him at will causing him to become tentative, then the Clippers will be in a lot of trouble especially on the boards. On the flipside, Blake Griffin needs to be ultra aggressive vs Randolph and anyone else they throw at him because MEM is going to close the middle down vs their guards and penetration. Griffin cant get tentative because hes afraid of the FT line at any point.

CP3 and the Clippers ability to score. I expect the Grizzlies to hedge hard against Paul trying to force the ball out of his hands and keeping him out of the middle as much as possible. The Clippers are going to need to find different ways to get CP3 on the move and giving him space off pick and rolls, because their basic offence is purely based off this because no one else can really create on their own especially if Griffin isnt being aggressive. The 3s are going to need to go down at a very high rate(9-10 per game) for them to win multiple games in this series especially if the Grizzlies can use their length to shut off Griffin. .

Oh yeah, and coaching. Its not even a contest. This also gives the Grizz a huge advantage.

PREDICTION:

MEM in 6. I think MEM is going to be able to cause a lot of Clippers droughts with their size in the middle being able to close off a lot of Pauls penetration and the Clippers using too much time to get in to their sets with their pressure. It's going to be an extremely entertaining series, but unless Blake can have a huge performance and Paul can continue his playoff greatness, or possibly the Clippers just straight going off from 3, then I dont see the Clippers pulling this one out.

I would love to see LAC go deep in the playoffs and an all LA 2nd round would be spectacular but I see Memphis taking this in 7.

One of the few (maybe the only?) series where I don't have a strong idea on who I think will win. the grizzlies really did not finish the season strong, but then again it was enough to pass the Clippers for home court. I'm scared to bet against playoff Chris Paul, but I don't think his team is enough, yet again. Grizz in 7.

Grizz are taking it I think. Allen can guard CP3, and downlow there are more options for Memphis. The Clippers are middle of the pack defensively while Memphis are on the top half of the league. It comes down to Blake and Paul. And if Paul can't score, it's all on Blake for the scoring load, who can be defended by either of the big men.

Last two games these teams played (the only recent games with Z-bo and Gasol back) Griffin had:
19 - 6 - 3 on 9/14
20 - 10 - 5 on 6/9

So I think he's certainly capable of scoring against that front line, but tend to agree he won't be able to do it by himself if effective in slowing Paul.

Can we get some stickys for the threads?

There ya go!

I got the Grizz in 7 but I won't be surprised if LAC wins.

Either way I see it going to 7 games.

Watching this game right now and Chris and Dick do not flow well at all

Grizzlies look like the best team in the West so far out of the gate.

Marc Gasol is making Jordan his bitch. Its not even fair.

Ball Don't Lie 04-29-2012 11:02 PM

MEM is as sharp as ever wow.

Beans 04-29-2012 11:09 PM

Gasol is sure making smooth plays

LX 04-29-2012 11:17 PM

Both Gasols are money today. As was Ibaka. It would be interesting to see the Spanish team go up against the NBA champs in a series.

Great crowd

I think right now that whoever wins the SAS MEM series may win it all. Not only are both teams stacked, theyve both come in the playoffs playing their best ball.

I think both teams have a great shot at beating MIA in the playoffs too because they can exploit Miami in the paint.

Beans 04-29-2012 11:35 PM

Reggie Evans :cookie:

The western series are sure more fun to watch.
