Heat Wade receives extension offer from Heat

Wade receives extension offer from Heat

LAS VEGAS -- The Miami Heat have wasted no time offering Dwyane Wade a contract extension.

Wade's agent, Henry Thomas, confirmed to CBSSports.com that he received an offer from Miami on Sunday, the day Wade's one-year window for signing an extension opened. Thomas declined to discuss specifics, but the maximum Miami can offer under the collective bargaining agreement is a four-year extension worth $86.6 million.

Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh signed their current three-year extensions three years ago this week. They become eligible to sign extensions on the three-year anniversary of signing their current deals. Wade was the first to sign, and his window -- which lasts until June 30, 2010 -- was the first to open.

Wade has said that he wants to wait and see what moves Miami makes to bring the team closer to championship contention before he decides on signing the extension.

What's the probability that Wade, LeBron or Bosh will sign their extension for their current teams and who has the best chance of keeping their franchise player?

I think Wade is the most likely to bolt of the 3 as of right now. I really think if MIA stands pat and has another MEH year then he could very well leave for a team with a much better looking future. Besides him MIA doesnt really have anything else going for them besides MAYBE Beasley if he ever got his head on straight, but even then theyre still a 4/5 seed.

Lebrons in his home town and his team is a contender, what more can you ask for? Unless the team really underachieves, OR the more likely factor, tjhat he indeed has the biggest ego ever and wants to become the most popular sports figure ever, I dont think hes going to bolt. But I think with Lebron in comparison to Wade, I think personality is the biggest thing for Lebron. If hes the stand pat kind of guy or he wants to go to the lions den and fight the lions with his bare hands.

Boshs just comes down to if the team performs or not because Colangelo, unlike Riley, went all out for his superstar begging for help. I really do believe Bosh loves the city and fans, it just comes down to if the team wins and him being happy because of the direction we're going in. Hopefully the team gels and wins 50 games and looks like it has a bright future. Adding his best friend doesnt hurt either.

If he signs with Miami then thats just going to suck for all those teams clearing capspace for 2010. One less superstar to pursue!

Bosh is th emost likely to stay. I bet he sees all that BC is doing for him and he'll sign a contract extension. Book it

As Derozan stated, it all comes down to wins. No wins = no Bosh

O man, you gotta love Dwade for being Extremely Loyal... you know that when you're still young and so Extremely Loyal to your team that you won't even bother going to another team for 10 or 13 yrs... they actually award you and do make you go to hall of fame and they even celebrate your retirement just like MJ who stayed in Bulls through better and worst. So I think Bosh should stay in TO just like Kevin Garnett did and look at KG right now... Minnesota fans still a big fan of KG even though he left to pursue his goal... Bosh should stay for 5 or 6 more years and if TO can't get the championship then he should move on and at least he deserve not to be boooed. LETS GO MoPete!

The saga continues...

Dwyane Wade: No rush for extension; intrigued by Boozer
By Ira Winderman South Florida Sun Sentinel

HOLLYWOOD - The opening of Dwyane Wade's window to sign an extension with the Miami Heat will not bring an immediate resolution.

Both the All-Star guard and his agent, Henry Thomas, said Saturday night that no talks are scheduled with Heat President Pat Riley.

"It's not a rush to do it," Wade said before the Summer Groove benefit dinner at Seminole Hard Rock Live. "I'm sure Coach Riley will call. But he's not expecting anything on the first day. We've got time."

Sunday is the first day Wade can negotiate a three-year extension to the two years he has remaining on his contract.

"We'll consider whatever extension offer comes our way," said Thomas, who joined Wade, Alonzo Mourning, Kenny Smith, Russell Simmons and others on the red carpet before Saturday's event.

Thomas said he had yet to receive any proposal from the Heat. Wade also has the option to become a free agent next summer by invoking an opt-out clause.

Wade has been seeking a roster upgrade, with close friend Carlos Boozer, a scheduled participant in Sunday's Summer Groove charity all-star game at AmericanAirlines Arena, reportedly being shopped by the Utah Jazz.

"Any time you can play with another great player, a fellow Olympian, I mean it's always something that's got to spark your interest," Wade said. "But, at the same time, I'm done trying to push Pat to do anything. He's going to do a good job for us. And we just have to have patience."

Wade said he understood the logistics of finding a time when Thomas, Riley and owner Micky Arison all could meet to discuss an extended deal.

"We've got to make sure us and Micky and Coach Riley can all get together and talk about it face to face," he said.

Wade seemed to back off his recent push for Riley to make an immediate roster upgrade.

"He'll deal with that," he said. "I'll deal with making sure our teammates are ready no matter who is here."

Of perceived differences with Riley, he stressed, "We always talk. It's nothing."

Maybe Wade is just waiting for Riles to sign Boozer?? Seems like a good move...

why would you sign 4 years for 86 or w/e now when you can get full max in a year?? Bad, bad business for the player

Lebron is the most likely to re-sign with his current team. I have no idea what will happen with Wade. I just have no real read on the situation. The guy did win a championship there, but the whole "what have you done for me lately" thing may be an issue if he feels they are not active enough in trying to improve the team the who knows.

As for Bosh, Toronto is certainly doing what they can to convince the guy that this is the place for him, but I will never underestimate the desire of an American player to play in the States. I hope the guy stays but I'll only believe it once we see an official announcement.

I just don't see anything happening this summer, although the economy could make guys like Bosh and Wade think twice, in which case I don't see how Wade likes where his team is at. Lebron is going to get the money no matter what, so he definitely waits.

We'll Wade will keep his options open, but most likely to bolt because Miami is very quiet this offseason and the loudest is Cleveland, Orlando and Toronto.

Its in Wade's best interest to sign now. The cap and luxury tax numbers are going to shrink big time next year. Not to mention there will be a new CBA in the works by the time his current contract finishes and you better believe the players are going to take a big hit. The American economy is in the shitter and half the league is losing a lot of money right now.

Dwyane's got himself between a rock and a hard place. Does he sign now, guarantee financial security and play with a team whose management he doesn't have confidence in? Or does he wait to see how Miami's management improves the team while risking the extra pocket change?
