Magic Wade to go to Orlando?

Wade has come out to say that he wants to play with D-Howard in Orlando.

Check out the article on the statement below!

easier said than done... Orlando doesnt have the money to spend on him during the FA signings.... maybe they'll dump Carter or Lewis.

More likely that Bosh will go to Miami.

If ORL has any chance at Wade they'll dump anyone on their roster (outside of D12) to get him.... and they'd be right to do so.

I would cry if that happened. I couldn't handle seeing Magic fans that happy lol.

There are many more rings and just as many beaches in his future in Orlando.

and like i said, easier said than done... in order to get into the running, they need to dump guys now and get expiring contracts in return.
you really think they will blow this season up and dump Carter or Lewis just because theres a chance Wade would sign in the summer?
i dont think so.

Why would Orlando do this?

They already have a better SG .

I didn't see anything about how great Orlando is at free throws in the clutch.

Man - Howard hits his two to tie the game. Carter puts them up by three. And then up by one Williams misses both. The best part was Carter finding it necessary to high five Williams back in the huddle.

Then it all ends on bad shot that Beasley slams home while in the cylinder. Miami is certainly lucky enough. Three wins by one point now.

Sign & Trade my friend.... sign & trade.....

I honestly think that Riley is enough of a hard-ass though that he'd let Wade walk for nothing rather than trade him ORL and have it come back to bite him year after year.

hmmmm, good call, i forgot about the possibility of a sign & trade.
believe me, miami will never lose wade for nothing... riley is a hard-ass, but he's too smart to let his feelings get in the way of business.

I would think D12 would go to Miami

If (and it's a big if) Wade decided that he wants to force his way out of Miami, Orlando would actually be an attractive trading partner for Riley. The fact that Orlando is in the same division and conference as Miami sucks, but, other than that, there are a number of reasons why Pat Riley would consider the Magic a good trading partner.

Otis Smith made some phenomenal moves in the offseason. The Carter trade gets lots of attention, but his other moves were just as valuable. Smith's decisions gave Orlando a lot of flexibility and depth. Retaining Gortat, picking up Bass, obtaining the trade exception in the Hedo deal, all of these things make it possible for Orlando to participate in 2 or 3 deals next summer that could result in them obtaining a superstar like Wade.

Due to Orlando's flexibility, if Wade tries to force his way out of Miami, Smith can offer Riley a variety of deals for Wade. Smith can offer Miami a package that includes a star like Lewis or Carter (option 1), or, if Riley prefers, Smith can offer a package of efficient contracts (option 2). What option 1 would include is pretty obvious: Lewis or Carter and a pick in exchange for Wade. Option 2 might not be as obvious so I am going to elaborate. Personally, if I was Riley, I would take option 2, and use it to rebuild my team overnight. I think Carter and Lewis are overpaid so I wouldn't want option 1.

Option 2 would look something like this, although a couple of the pieces might be different.

Option 2
Orlando gets:
Wade

Miami gets:
Jameer Nelson ($6.7 mill salary)
Gortat ($.6.3 mill)
Pietrus ($5.3 mill)
Ryan Anderson ($1.4 mill)
1st round pick

*(Depending on what Riley wants, Smith could substitute Reddick or Bass for one of the other players. Riley might want Reddick or Bass).

Some of you might think this deal is crazy, but, if you think about it a little, Miami is actually getting a decent package. In addition to a pick, the Heat get 4 rotation players, three of whom are arguably starter calibre (Nelson, Pietrus, Gortat) and one of whom is an All-Star level talent (Nelson). All of this costs less than $20 mill in salary. In addition to these new players, the only contracts the Heat would be locked into for 2010 would be those of Beasley and Cook, and they'd definitely pick up Chalmers's team option.

So, after trading Wade, this is what the Heat would have:

Nelson
Gortat
Pietrus
Anderson (or Reddick or Bass)
Beasley
Cook
Chalmers

Salary cost: Approx. $ 25-27 million

They may choose to keep all the players, or they might simply treat them as assets in further deals. Assuming they keep all the players and the cap was low in 2010 (projected at $53 million), the Heat would still have over $25 million to complete their rotation. That's a lot of dough to fill out just a few spots. They could use that cap space to go after a new elite free agent, or to participate in another lopsided salary trade that brings in an allstar from a team looking to dump.

The reasons why this trade helps Orlando are obvious. Even though they give up several rotation players to obtain Wade, Orlando has other assets that can be used to gain new depth players. Smith could use Carter as a trading chip to acquire a couple of players from another team, or Smith could use his trade exception to pick up a player or two.

Again, all of this is contingent upon Wade forcing his way out of town. My main point is that trading with Orlando is far better than letting Wade walk off to another team. Orlando has a lot of flexibility in the types of packages it can offer, which, I think, gives the Magic an advantage over most other teams. A few teams might be able to offer a better package, but they are not necessarily teams on Wade's list of top destinations.

P.S.

The one thing that I forgot to mention is that Orlando may also acquire a new player to trade before the hypothetical trade with Miami takes place. Orlando may use its trade exception in an earlier trade for the sole purpose of picking up a player that they plan to swap in a July trade for someone like Wade. Hypothetically speaking, for example, Orlando could send Gortat to Detroit for Hamilton or Prince, and then package Hamilton or Prince (whoever they get) with Jameer Nelson and a pick in exchange for Wade. Or, Orlando may swap Carter for something from another team that they later use in the package for Wade. There is a lot that could happen, since Orlando has sooooo much flexibility.

Having your star player talking about playing for another team IN NOVEMBER sucks large.

I'll stick with CB4 and his class act.
