Clippers Vinny Del Negro to return as Clippers coach

Man... lol... Thrills is gonna be mad. Phil Jackson AND Jerry Sloan out there (not to mention SVG) and they go with VDN again?

The Los Angeles Clippers announced they will retain coach Vinny Del Negro after guiding the team to the second round of the NBA playoffs this season, reports ESPN.com. The Clippers exercised the final year of his contract option and had until June 1 to make a decision.

That team just can't help themselves. They finally have a chance at really making noise and they cheap out on the coach. Shit or get off the pot boys!!

Absolutely awful. SVG and Sloan available and they choose to stay with this clown. And not only that, its looking like their GM may bolt to Portland after putting together a nice team this year.

The Clippers can now only hope that their GM stays and fills their needs at starting 2 and backup bigman(that can shoot the rock), and hope VDN somehow can turn into a decent coach over the summer improving his systems on both sides of the ball. Its really too bad, because if they were to fill their holes at the 2 and backup big, and get SVG, theyd be a Western Conference powerhouse with Griffins likely improvement and having him and CP together for a full training camp.

even if i had no idea what is wrong with del negro, which i do, thrills has analysed, deeply and often, a litany of issues with the way he coaches. just read some of his comments. if you don't completely agree something is wrong with you.

Nice trolling. Besides his:

1. Uncreative offence(they essentially ran the exact same side pick and roll play 80% of their sets with CP3, and no one else moving off the ball. If they didnt run this, then they ran a Blake Griffin straight post iso where again, no one moved off the ball. Watch a Clippers close regular season game. They won so many games down the stretch because of CP3s brilliance. If they never made that trade and ran the same offence, theyd be in the lottery with us this year seeing how many close games they won because CP3 was the best reg season closer in basketball. Or you could just go back to last year when they had Gordon instead of CP3 and saw the results).

2. Lack of rotating defence(Clippers were dreadful in guarding the 3 point line most of this season, and it was often due to the 2nd rotation not happening, ie helping the helper. Most if not all good teams make at least the 2nd rotation on defence. The Clippers players just looked clueless at times).

3. Bad player rotations(leaving his full bench lineup in the game every game at the start of the 2nd and 4th qtrs. If it doesnt work in the 1st half, its not going to work in the 2nd half. And also giving players set amount of minutes in the playoffs despite a player off the bench being hot. He changed this a bit with Bledsoe later in the MEM series, but didnt do so with Mo Will and Nick Young in certain games where they were on fire from the floor in the 1st half).

4. Inability to make adjustments(see the previous point, as well as lack of adjustments on screen roll/defensive help, and too many times this year they left DeAndre Jordan to single cover his man, and as many know hes one of the worst post defenders in the league), I think he's pretty good.

You know you're bad when no one in both fanbases of the teams in which you've coached for likes you.

Del Negro has grown on me.

Vinny Del Negro was nowhere near where Chris Paul is on the offensive end. He would be a horrible coach not to let Chris Paul to run the show on the offensive end of the floor.

He's not the one calling the pick and rolls - CP3 is.

Del Negro has shown in Chicago and with the Clips that he can get his teams to win games. He's 2/2.

When Gordon wasn't hurt, he and Griffin were playing great. Promising duo. They weren't headed for the playoffs but they were pulling out some nice Ws.
