Cool Unions CBA proposal leaked

Enjoy as many games as you can, a strike is a comin'.

Quote:
In a podcast conveyed to NBA players, union chief Billy Hunter said that he will not agree to a hard cap with the league seeing large growth in revenues.

Details of the union's proposal for the next collective bargaining agreement were obtained by the New York Times.

They include expanding flexibility for completing trades (such that player salaries traded only need to be within approximately 250 percent of each other), eliminating base-year compensation rules, increasing qualifying offers required to make a player a restricted free agent, shortening the time period a team has to match a restricted free agent's offer sheet, replacing the biannual exception with a second midlevel exception, and dropping the age limit back to 18.

Just like with the league's proposals, they are going to start with the most unreasonable, unrealistic offers imaginable, so that they can give up a lot while still possibly gaining something.

If anyone thinks this is going to be the basis of a final make-or-break proposal, then they are nuts.

even as a bargaining position that seems substantially far fetched, i mean every one of these positions is a complete non-starter, no?

exactly - it's exactly the tact that has been credited to Stern every time, and Hunter has been criticized for coming in at a weaker right off the bat, having much less they can give up without looking like they are caving.

Isn't Irving injured right now? Apparently out for 4-6 weeks. Hopefully he drops a little if we get a #5+ pick..

you wish, as long as its not severe, he's still going top 3

and the league always wins, though the union might get a couple of small things

here's hoping for a hard cap and some kind of way to instill parity in the league. Cancel as many seasons as you need to get there thanks.

It's funny, some want parity others don't.

I don't know, i heard Jeff Blair say that he likes having Elite high spending teams to hate (ie: Laker, Celtics, Miami, Spurs, Yankees in baseball etc...), i've heard other people say that as well.

In the current NBA there is some form of parity in the west, where all 8 playoff teams are good teams, this year still remains to be seen. The East certainly doesn't have it though.
