DPOY has more to do with your perception from the media and fans. If chandler was still in Charlotte, no one would give a fuck and no way in hell he wins this award. not saying hes not a great defender, because he proved to everyone he was very dominant defensively last season. But a guy like shawn marion or ibaka were incredible defensively, but chandler playing is NY gets all the hype.

I think it's justified even if they only get one of Deron or Dwight (Especially D12).
Yeah but I think they could gave gotten Deron anyway if they re-signed Tyson. So not re-signing Tyson should lead to more than just Deron. I'm sure Dallas has something planned. Cuban would not rid his team of so many good players if he didn't have a plan.

Yeah, they might have got Deron even if they kept Tyson. I see what you're saying. I agree it easily could have played out like that.

However, in my opinion (and I think this is what Cuban was thinking), Chandler's contract, in particular, was not an efficient allocation of money. 13-14 million for Chandler is a lot. They have multiple options for what they can do with that money. Obviously they'd consider pursuing D12. But even if that falls through, just keeping Terry and Marion would be nice. If I'm allocating money, I'd rather use $15 mill to fill 2 spots with quality vets, rather than just spend it on a center who is, arguably, overpaid.

Edit - to be clear, I'm talking about keeping Marion and Terry on top of signing Deron.

I can agree with that.

Regardless of whether or not Chandler stayed or went, the fact of the matter is that Dirk is nowhere near the player he was last year. He was in the best shape of career last season and was killing every single match up that teams could throw at him.

He was sat out this year to get into shape - how wierd is that - missing games to work out.

That said, missing Chandler is definitely hurting them. Haywood isn't on his level.

no i agree with what your saying and that chandler is a great defensive player i just believe lebron just had the more dominate defensive season,

lebrons defense turns into offense instantly with fast breaks, his defense affects both sides of the ball, where as chandler dominates the paint and doesnt allow any access to it

i guess most people believe it was chandler i cant argue with that but lebron should be at least 2nd in voting, i love that lebron can guard 1 to 5 and do it well, its insane how miami can switch so easily on defense, miami can give you so many defensive looks because of lebron

Say whaaaaaaaat? Blocks do not equal defence. Ibaka is an OK defender, and great at protecting the rim. He is not the DPOY.

I think you can make an argument for a bunch of wing defenders, but it's hard to get votes for them. Marion, Iggy, Deng, Lebron, Tony Allen, even Grant Hill all deserve some recognition.

Yeah I'm not sure how Ibaka ended up second in the voting.

I don't know if this has been posted somewhere else, but Grantland posted an interesting article about Chandler and Eddy Curry.

The divergent careers of the Miami Heat's Eddy Curry and the New York Knicks' Tyson Chandler - Grantland

I guess they can't ignore Ibakas block numbers. But it's known that Perk guards the better post players one on one.
