Tyreke Evans named ROTY

Or as Jack Armstrong calls him, Tyrekeee Evans.

Quote:
Tyreke Evans will be officially named the NBA's Rookie of the Year either Thursday or Friday, according to a report on Sactown Royalty (disclaimer: yes, the proprietor is FanHouse's own Tom Ziller, although that only serves to make this more reputable).

The news is logical in that Evans joined Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson as the only NBA players in history to average 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game as a rookie. Decent company indeed.

As were the other members of 'Reke's rookie class: Stephen Curry and Brandon Jennings received ample support from various camps, most of whom touted the "team success" (Jennings) and "even crazier/worse of a situation plus a straight stupid second half" (Curry, whose 17.5/4.5/5.9 line ain't nothing to sneeze at).

this kid put up consistent MJ/Oscar Robinson numbers while putting up a fight in the west.

Jennings is close, but not that much

Oooooops! Wait? Was that last year? Year before that? Damn it!

Yeah, I went there.

Congrats Evans, well done.

Jennings is a chucker who shot 37% for the season.

He took 1216 shots for the season, nearly 300 more then the next player on the team.

Jennings wasn't option #1 and his team is in the playoffs
Evans is #1 and on a bad team
diffrent situations, but all ROY's come from bad teams
thats why its an individual award

Yet he's not ROTY. Good season, but Evans was way more deserving. Good for him.

no competition at all. Tyreke Evans is ROTY.when you are selected in the lottery...yeah your team will most likely suck. Jennings doing big things in Milwaukee but he has a much better supporting cast and his stats simply aren't as good as Tyreke's.

this is and individual award, not a team award. If Jennings was averaging a bit more pts/reb/ast and it was closer in the box score THAN i would look at how well each players respective teams are doing, but Evans is flat out the better statistical player and therefore wins ROTY.

Does this mean that he will average 27, 7, and 7 next season?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Curry in this thread. Dude was nasty after the all-star break, had he played like that all year he'd have run away with this. I figured it'd either be him or Evans, with Jennings a distant third. When all is said and done Curry will be the best player in this draft, better than Evans.

No. Jennings was given the chance to be the #1 option in Miwaukee, that's why he put up monster stats during the first 10 games. However, Jennings was incapable of filling that role longterm. Over the final 72 games he shot fg% .349 As a result, the Bucks needed to start making other players a bigger part of the offense and Jennings started to defer to his teamates more. They really took off when they had Bogut and Salmons as their top options, and that's because Jennings is just too inconsistent. He has the potential to be great, but only if he starts playing really well for stretches longer than 10 games at a time. On the other hand, Tyreke sustained monster numbers for a full season, even though defenses focussed in on him a lot. Jennings could have had the same chance to be "the man" but he doesn't have as polished a perimeter game as Evans, so Jennings couldn't do it.

Also, the ROTY usually come from bad teams, but not always; sometimes they come from playoff teams. Derrick Rose won last year and he was on a playoff team. I guess it depends on what you mean by "bad."

Curry is awesome. I think many people who read this thread realize that. However, if somebody thinks the best individual performance wins the award, then Evans will be the choice due to his full season production. If somebody thinks contributing to a winning team matters, then they bring up Jennings. Curry probably wasn't mentioned by posters since he's not the leader of either category. I agree with you that he might have been if he'd balled crazy all year long. Had that been the case, Curry would have had more early season recognition and publicity.
