Pacers Tyler Hansbrough

Hey, first post here guys. I was just thinking, doesn't it seem a little late for Tyler Hansbrough to have been picked at the 13th spot? In fact, many mock drafts had him going even later. Not that this is late in the draft, or even the first round but it is the second last lottery pick.
Tyler averaged the highest junior ppg at 22.6 since Charlie Scott had 27.1 a game in '60/'70. When Ty Lawson went down, he stepped his shit up and averaged 28 points and 12 rebounds a game (only over 7 games, but still impressive).
He elected to stay for his senior year, a wise choice in my opinion. He got to the line and shot 80%+. Oh and did I forget to mention? The Heels won their 5th title, although his stats dropped a bit to 21 and 8. I wouldn't have expected this to lower his draft stock that much considering it was a championship team.
He's also probably one of of the most NBA ready big guys, plays good defense, and has shown some leadership capabilities. What say you everyone?

Hansbrough could get away with being undersized and mediocre athletically in the college game, because on a night to night basis the height and athleticism just isn't there as it is in the NBA. He's NBA-ready in that he's a scrappy, physical, strong dude who hustles his ass off, but he's a career role player at best, he just doesn't have the athletic tools for his numbers to translate.

Oh, and by the way, Biggie runs Tupac's show.

I don't think his offensive game will transfer to the NBA..at all. However, his character and determination should make him useful in terms of consistant hustle and energy. Best case scenario -as far as I'm concerned- is a Najera-ish guy.

I think he'll be a really decent role player for years to come.

I compare him to a guy like Noah.

Noah wouldn't blow you away with any skill but just a solid basketball and in the end basketball is really all about fundamentals and intelligence and he has both.

I could see him as a Shane Battier type of player in terms of influence on the court.

Oddly, I was quietly chuckling at how well chase budinger has been doing... very well actually, while everyone in "mock draft" expertise world had him ranked as a piece of shit.

Good for him. It's really fun to see which guys will really pan out, and which ones won't.

He looks like one of those guys that plays very fundamentally, and in the NBA that can translate very well. He may never be a big star, but he is far from useless it seems.

Going to Indiana was a HUGE bonus for him. i think he may have gotten lost on another team's bench, but with the pacers, he'll be given a chance to showcase himself. he's a guy who plays extremely hard on both ends of the court and i see him being a solid role player for years to come. he isnt going to explode into a superstar but he is a player any team would love to have.

I always liked Chase Budinger. There's a reason why he was ranked high in mock drafts. As for Hansborough, like zachus said, he's not all that athletic, but he's a scrapper on the court and will hustle his ass off. I liken him to a Matt Bonner without the 3-point range.

he was, then they all dropped him like mad because his numbers at the "combines" were low and unathletic. He also wasn't lighting it up at the end of the year.

It's a bit ridiculous how fickle it is really.

I guess they have to play the probabilities with rooks.

Best-case scenario for Hansborough is Harpring's game IMO...

Doesn't have the lateral quicks to be a Battier type and doesn't have the length or athleticism to be a Noah.

Usually I'm very high on college seniors but for some reason I don't think that he'll be anything beyond a decent 8th man.

Even though he is undersized I think that he will have the ability to average about 10 points and 8 rebounds a game but if he wants his game to translate to all star level he is going to have to develop a better mid range shot and a three point shot.

I used to to like Pac but then i realized that just because he rapped about his life experiences doesn't mean he even came close to biggie lyrically.Tupac's good but not as good as Big and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this.
