Troy Murphy requests trade

Quote:

Troy Murphy has played his last game for the Nets.

The Sparta native and Delbarton grad has asked to be traded after less than one season with the team, GM Billy King said, and the team will grant that request. Murphy will be allowed to stay home until the team can find a taker for his expiring $11.9 million contract.

Murphy, 30, was left back in New Jersey last week when the team went on a four-game West Coast trip — the team said he was “sick” — and he was to have been part of the three-team deal with Denver and Detroit that would have brought Anthony to the Nets. Murphy would have been sent to Detroit, along with Johan Petro, in exchange for Richard Hamilton.

But King said Prokhorov’s directive that the team end its pursuit of Anthony means that the entire deal — including the part with Detroit — is dead.

I was just about to post about him in the Melo Watch thread...the man can still play and get double doubles easily, think he had back problems earlier but he should still get enough time to play with a team like the Nets...any chance the Raps could get him?

Once again, too many PF's and undersized centers. Only good he would do is an expiring contract.

troy murphy's 6'11...he's a quality player with low trade value right now, if BC could get the right package together, I don't see why not.

how about swapping expiring contracts lol

^^Doubt he is 6'11"

INSIDER 01-20-2011 02:59 AM

Murphy is about a year removed from almost averaging a double/double... how'd he fall so far so fast?
his value is rock bottom right now, how bad is his contract? it must be horrible if no one is looking to grab him.

^^^His playing time was decreased because of Favours. Or else he would still be averaging a double double right now or close to one.

expiring contracts are overrated. sign him long term. pair him with bargnani in the front court and we'll ride that dominating defensive pairing to the playoffs.

m5racer 01-20-2011 11:48 AM

he is a solid C that knows how to defend and rebound.....exactly what we need, move bargs to start at PF done....I have been waiting for this murphy trade for a while now....

Winning combination:
Bargs - Amir -
Murphy - Ed Davis
