Why? Oden is a low risk, high reward gamble. For the right price, I'd love to have him here. If anything else, he'd be an ideal backup to Jonas in a few years.

Yeah, let's give a guy 9Mil to not play while we have a 9Mil PF who can't defend or rebound. Great move there.

Greg Oden is one of the top centers in the league. Granted, his health is a big question mark, but you can't deny his talent. Hire a few conditioning coaches and lets see what we can do.

I think any team that gets him, whether it be Portland or another team, they are going to be laughing in everyones face. I obviously can't say he'll stay healthy with stats or what have you but I do have a gut feeling.

I'm saying he'll average about 18 and 10 this season, while winning most improved.

Low risk? He's played 82 games in the past 3 years, out of a possible 246 games. And he's a restricted free agent being offered his qualifying offer, which is $8.8 Million.

Oden is not an ideal backup to Jonas. If he's healthy, he starts and he's one of the best C's in the league. He's got unbelievable physical gifts. The problem is that he's not healthy and who knows how durable he'll be long term.

If I were BC I'd go after oden with our PTE if anything...
But the 8+ million is a big price tag either way.

He is worth the risk. He still can be a top center in the league.

On one hand you have the NBA owners complaining about overpaid, oft-injured players. Then you have the Trailblazers offering a chronically injured, over hyped bench warmer a fairly large contract. What gives?

I think if there is a time to take a gamble on Oden, it's now. We still have a lot of flexibility with finances. It's not like we can get any worse, and Oden was projected to have Hall of Fame talent. Definitely worth the risk.

Was a projected hall of famer - 82 games played since being drafted in 2007. Oden missed his first year, played 61 games in year 2 as a rookie, played 21 games in year 3 and none in year 4. Oden has averaged 20.5 games over 4 years and has had microfracture surgery on both knees, surgery on his left patella and foot injuries/ailments since being drafted. Shit, he broke his knee getting off the couch the first time. Is he still a great talent? Yep, but his body is breaking down and you want to pay well over 8.8 mil to get him? Cause I'm pretty sure he won't sign a longer deal for less money as Portland will just match and if it's a one year it would have to be well over 8.8 to entice him to sign and again, I think Portland would match - just to keep his bird rights and counting on the fact there might be non guarranteed contracts or an amnesty clause with the new CBA. Portland is doing everyting right here.
