Default Tough love for Howard

Maybe his nickname should be Big Baby. His ability to "sack up" or to be an adult is, frankly, pathetic.

Dwightmare continues for Howard and the Lakers

Quote:
The Lakers were down 30 points to the Celtics midway through the fourth quarter.

Kobe Bryant didn't touch the floor in the fourth. Neither did Steve Nash or Antawn Jamison. Metta World Peace was subbed out around the nine-minute mark after an official timeout.

But Dwight Howard stayed in. The tables had been turned. He wouldn't watch from the bench this time. Coach Mike D'Antoni was sure of that once Howard "decided" to play.
Quote:
Howard had missed the last three games -- all wins for the Lakers -- but not at the decision of trainers or D'Antoni. According to D'Antoni, Howard could have played.

"Yeah, he's been cleared for a while," he said. "I mean, he's always clear because he has a tear. It's going to be there but he had pain, so obviously he's not going to play with the pain, and he felt better today. That's why he played."
Quote:
"This is my body, and I have to control my body and my future and my career. So I can't worry about anybody else."

Howard has made that abundantly clear. It's "he" before "we". His team, on the other hand, couldn't care less about the injuries he may or may not have.

And there lies the problem. The disconnect between Howard and the Lakers is quite apparent. It looks and sounds like a player not willing to sacrifice his future for a team he doesn't see in it. And it looks and sounds like a team not willing to sacrifice the present for a future it simply doesn't have.

Quote:
"Hopefully they'll start supporting me the way they need to," Howard told CSNNE.com. "Until then, I'm going to continue to do whatever I can to help our team win."

I'm not a huge fan of Kobe or Dantoni but Howard just keeps embarrassing himself.

Does that mean Asik is on his way out?

Can we get in on that?

To Toronto: Asik - Aldrich

To Lakers: Bargnani - Delfino - White

To Houston: Howard - AA

Well they would be getting D12 at which point it'd be like a Howard/Gortat kind of deal.

If the framework was there, they'd be willing to ship out Asik right away to guarantee that they can pair Harden with Dwight.

Only question is...with the Lakers knowing he won't resign, what would it take to get them involved?

is it really giving up on a player when you're acquiring one of the best defensive bigs in the league. we'd be lucky to have jonas have the same impact out on the court.

Don't think it'll take JV to be honest.

Houston will easily give Asik and a 1st to get a signed D12.

We would easily give up Bargnani and whatever else we can muster to get Asik.

Lakers (assuming they know D12 will bolt) will need to get something for him becuase their gonna be at 78 million. Means they get no MLE right?

At least this way they'll be able to have a team for next year.

Asik is 26yrs old and won't get much better if at all. His first two seasons he averaged 3/3 in 14mpg. JV is only 21yrs old and is averaging 7/5 in 20mpg.

Asik has had one good season and he's 26. To give up on a 21yr with the promise that JV has for him would be ridiculous. Biedrins had a good couple seasons aswell, anyone want him right now? Not saying Asik is another Biedrins but you can't give up on JV for a player that's had a good 45 games.

Dwight Howard reminds one of an earlier Darryl Dawkins

"Too many will be blinded by the flashes of brilliance that never materialized into consistent greatness. There were times when he teased us with a hint of how he could dominate a game. And we went home in awe and yet sad because we knew of no spell to make it happen more frequently. But few players could make us feel that way even once."

An illusion , a mirage

I don't have time to check Coon right now but quickly....

To my knowledge, the new CBA does not allow 5th years to be added on to sign and trade contracts. So, if my memory is correct, that means that Howard and Houston have no motivation to work with Los Angeles in a sign and trade transaction to get Howard more guaranteed money and keep him happy. The only other reason they'd have for working with the Lakers is if they needed to send something out because they didn't have the cap space to sign Howard. But, the Rockets have loads of cap space and flexibility next year.

If my memory is correct about S&T transactions, Dwight would just sign with Houston as a free agent. No trade. The Rockets would then have the freedom to send Asik to another team and get even more assets.

It's part of the reason why I think the Lakers decision to hold Dwight past the trade deadline could be incredibly risky. If Dwight walks, the Lakers could get nothing, unless Dwight wants to go to a capped-out team that absolutely has to trade for him, like, say, Brooklyn.

Atlanta is another team that could probably outright steal him for nothing, assuming my memory is correct.

Dwight Howard might be the biggest bust of a #1 pick ever.

I've always said he has no heart. He is a lot like Vince, and always has been.
