I agree with Hill being number 1 he could have been with on par with Kobe and LeBrick.

Interesting topic.

I remember the Grant Hill of the Detroit years. He did it all. He could play every position.

I remember the hype surrounding Grant Hill's FA year. Everyone wanted him, Tim Duncan and Tracy McGrady.

As for Mash, completely killed his career, but the big one for me was Penny. He and Jason Kidd were the new backcourt that would launch Phoenix to a championship. Didn't quite happen.

but do you remember the hype surrounding the magic?
that was supposedly the best FA summer ever. Both Hill and McGrady were signed to BIG, Long contracts and everything seemed to be lining up perfectly... the superstar veteran Hill would teach the young up and comer Tmac.
everyone assumed Hill would sit out for a few months and be 100% on his return. little did they know that his ankle was destroyed and would never be fully healed. then he hurt it even more when he tried to return to early.
they would have been deadly.

Tim Duncan toyed with the Magic that summer. He knew he wasn't going to sign. Same with McGrady when he visited Chicago. I think they had him throw out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

cool article. thanks jumpman.

the sad thing about Yao is that there just seems to be something about him (and his genetics) that has me questioning if he'll ever be healthy. Something with him just ain't right.

BTW, where was Jorge Garbajosa?! That would have been high on my list (seriously :homer: ).

Also, the Livingston one is pretty tragic. dude was young...

I remember the Livingston one like it was yesterday. What a gruesome injury.

As for the hype surrounding the Magic that year. My god do I remember it. They were set to win the championship already, but really they signed two players that year that play the same position. I remember the big fish was TD and the Magic really thought they had him. But like Hoops said, he just toyed with them and made the right decision.

I also remember the Chicago situation really well. First they wanted Hill. Never got it. Then T-Mac and he burned them. If I remember correctly, I think he actually had a deal in place there and he backed out. Then they end up signing Ron Mercer! Hell, Tim Thomas got a big deal that year too because of his promise. There's a waste of a player. But yeah, it started a list of poor signings for the Bulls. Eddie Robinson anyone?

Shouldn't Antonio McDyess be on there. He was averaging 20.8ppg, 12.1rpg, 2.5apg, 1.5bpg before his injury. Then he averaged 11.3ppg and 5.5rpg the year after.

I don't know why Bender would be on there instead of Jay Williams, unless they didn't count the latter because it was an off-court injury. 2nd overall pick who's career ended after his rookie season, that's pretty big. Albeit he wasn't all that great his rookie year

Garbajosa's injury was almost as important as Livingston's, Bender's or Mashburn's in terms of what it did to the team at an important phase of their development. It would have been tough to put him on there on an individual talent basis, but it was comparable.

how about Googs (Tom Gugliotta)?
i remember him being a monster... i'm pretty sure he had a few seasons in a row of 20/9 ish... then he callapsed on the team bus (heart problem) and when he was cleared to play agian he never came back to his old self.... and quietly fell off the map after a few sub par seasons and retired.

Livingston was a huge injury because the clippers where depending on him so much. Poor guym, we'll probably never get to see his full potential.

And not a single mention by anyone of our very own VC. Maybe because his injury was more in his head.

God must be angry he wasted so much talent on that guy.

Jay Williams is another good player who should be on that list. He was suppose to be the next best PG in the league.

everything out of duke was the next best thing...

he wasn't that good of a player nor was he even a point guard in college. people just fell in love with his quickness and program.
