Toddler dies after falling from Lakers luxury suite

LOS ANGELES, CALIF.A toddler has died after falling 15 metres from a luxury suite at the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Golden State Warriors in the Staples Center arena.

Police Sgt. Frank Alvelais says early Monday that the boy, believed to be two or three years old, was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he died. The boys name hasnt been released.

The boy fell from the third level top tier of the luxury suites several minutes after the Lakers beat the Warriors 117-89 on Sunday night.

KTLA-TV says its believed the child was taking pictures when he plunged to the concrete floor.

Witnesses told the Los Angeles Times the boy was moving his arms, legs and head before paramedics took him out of arena on a stretcher.
A security guard, top, looks down from where a young boy fell to where a second security guard stands following a Los Angeles Lakers game Nov. 21.

That's so awful.

This is why I'm wary of heights or anything that isn't as secure as it should be. That should not have happened.

no excuse having a toddler run freely on heights where there is no proper barrier, ridiculous

no like after the game they were having these interviews and then the long shot of the arena before they were about to change, then there was a loud screaming in the background but then i didn't know what it was because i thought a bunch of overhappy fans or something, but looking back and thinking of the sound horrifies me

Yeah it is very sad but it just comes down to negligence on the parents part.

They could have railings up or whatever but at some point it needs to come down to personal responsibility. You can't expect a child to have that but the parent/guardian assumes that role and somebody fucked up.

Hopefully it will serve as a wake-up call to other parents and it won't happen again.

this is very disturbing. i try not to judge the way people raise their children, but i certainly judge the way they protect them.

Just really fucking horrible, but in defense of the parents, we don't know the whole story and all it takes one second for something like this to happen, even if you're paying attention.

A police investigation was under way Monday in the death of a toddler who plunged from a third-level luxury box at Staples Center on Sunday night.

Lucas Anthony Tang, 2, was taking pictures with his family in a skybox with a glass safety barrier that varies in height but is at least several feet high, police Officer Julie Sohn said.

"Somehow the child went over the edge of the section and fell to the seating below," Sohn said.

Fire officials said boy fell 25 to 50 feet.

being a new parent myself i can agree with you, but also see how something like that can happen. Especially in crazy atmosphere like a basketball game where there are distractions a plenty (for both the kid and the parents). In the end it's just one horrible situation where there isn't really much to say other than 'damn'.

As am I, but I'm not gonna go letting my kid go leaning/standing on any sort of barrier without at least my hand on him, it prevents stupidity from parents like this where they allow their kid that few seconds to climb it and fall.
