Spurs TJ Ford to sign a minimum deal with Spurs

Quote:
T.J. Ford will backup Tony Parker in San Antonio.

“I can’t wait to get there,” he said from his home in Houston.

“This is a great opportunity for me to continue to play,” said Ford. “I understand my role in the NBA now. I accept it and look forward to getting started on Friday. I want to help these guys pick up where they left off in the regular season and I believe I can be a positive factor for them off the bench.”

Ford averaged 14.9 points and 5.3 assists in 74 games last season.

“I’m healthy,” he said. “Condition-wise, I’m in great shape. I’ve been playing in Europe, so I think I’m ready for an NBA camp.”

They have Cory Joseph to play 3rd PG. Or TJ. Either way this signing works.

Well it only took him what? 7 or 8 years to understand his role? LOL... good for him though.

To me, it's not that surprising that he wasn't able to accept a reduced role very easily. Ford was a fantastic high school and college player. When he's at his best, he's damned good, but I think the injuries have not helped his case.

If he is able to maintain a more positive attitude (he is in San Antonio), I think he can do well off the bench.

I liked him when we first got him for Charlie V. I think his confidence got to the best of him and he didnt pan out too well. He was good when he was doing his role. But once he tried to put everything on himself and when Jose was coming along he couldnt take it coming off the bench.

But under poppavich all that could change though

I saw T.J. play in Portland a few weeks ago. He looked good, ready to go. He's gonna get some PT in San Antonio. Tony Parker plays hard, gets hurt, misses games. The Spur's rookie Cory Joseph is very good, but needs some seasoning. Good move by the Spurs.
