Well let's face it, we don't know how he'd be if he didn't already have 4 rings and still be on a top 5 team in the WC. Why would he leave that? If the Spurs were a rebuilding team and missed the playoffs 4-5yrs in a row earlier in his career would he still be there?

He had a choice years ago to join TMac and Grant Hill in Orlando and turned it down..... at the time, that would have been an even more potent threesome than Boston's and Miami's two and a half

why would he though? SA had just won the championship and were on their way to winning 3 more. He had no reason to leave. If SA wasn't a contender at the time and had missed the playoffs for 3-4 years he possibly would have.

Part of me actually thought that Garnett and Duncan might consider signing for a much smaller amount so that their respective teams would have more financial flexibility to add pieces to give them a better shot at one more tittle. I guess it`s just too hard to pass up another substantial payday before they retire.

you kind of have a point. but its tough for players to stay loyal to teams when the teams and we as fans are so quick to come up with trade scenarios. loyalty goes both ways. if i were a player i'd only look out for myself. because fans can turn their backs on players as quickly as they were loyal.

look at all the people on this board wanting to trade Demar. you cannot expect players to be loyal when we treat them like they're disposable.

forget how cleveland felt when lebron left. think about the history of players that have felt betrayed or unwanted when swiftly kicked out of an organization.

at the end of the day...its a business. loyalty only exists when its mutual (not often).

Yes, I know that. But they were overpaid on their last contracts, anyway; they weren`t giving $20 mill per worth of production.

Career wise Garnett already has close to $300 million and Duncan has over $200 million in salary alone. At this point, if they really wanted another title badly, they could be playing for peanuts. I don`t hold it against them, or anything like that. Just part of me thought that with such massive career earnings they might consider playing for a few million per.

there is more to peoples lives than money or rings. Duncan has a life and a family in SA, why the fuck would he wanna move, dude is a grown ass man with a family.

i think its kind of a visibility thing as well... when you think of Reggie Miller, or Stockton, or even Bird or Magic.... just the fact that those guys played for the same team their entire careers actually warrants more respect, IMO.
sure, the majority of those guy won rings and were part of great teams, but not all of them.
Reggie Miller for example had to deal with some major bums for a while... he didnt win a ring and never chased one, and while he wasnt the best of the best he was really good and i think gets more respect because he was loyal. i for one give him a bit more respect due to loyalty, and those bonus points push him up my personal NBA rankings when arguing about who was better than whom.
