Timberwolves in talks to acquire Pau Gasol

Quote:

In other news involving NBA big men, a source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves believe it could be enticing for Gasol to play on the same team as fellow Spaniard Rubio.

here you go... speaking of D Williams
Minnesota shouldn't have underplayed his minutes

have you seen the guy in action enough to make such a move?

ClutchCity 02-16-2012 03:55 PM

Not happening. Anything involving the Lakers that goes public usually doesn't happen. That's not how Mitch does it. Plus why would Minni do this trade? Not like they will contend after this move, and Pau is declining.

17/11/1.4 is declining?

ClutchCity 02-16-2012 04:10 PM

Also, Lakers would be nuts to make this trade unless its for a flip trade.

Yes. Are you serious? Anyone who's watched Gasol the last few years will tell you he's dropped off some. He's still an awesome player no doubt, but his game and his value are only going to drop now.

Mehhh, i think that's overstated and he has 3 good years left in him.

ClutchCity 02-16-2012 04:18 PM

Yeah, he probably does. I just think their future is brighter with Derrick Williams, Wes Johnson than with Pau. In the short-run (1-2 years), they'll be a lot better with Gasol but it still won't be enough to contend.

I don't think Gasol will be there long term anyway

I don't understand why Minny would do this. With Love, Pekovic and Beasley are they really THAT desperate for a big man?

10gizzle 02-16-2012 05:43 PM

2 words.

Nikola Pekovic.

A veteran leader still playing at a high level with tons of playoff experience and two rings is a perfect fit for a young team like the Wolves.

Dark Knight 02-16-2012 06:40 PM

T-Wolves are interested in the wrong Gasol. They should be pushing hard for Marc instead, he and Love would be the best young front court in the league.

Probably true.... just figured that Minny would keep their core together and let them grow for another season or two.

I don't think I'd be comfortable giving up D. Williams for Pau given Williams' potential.

Aamir 02-16-2012 08:24 PM

Is he supposed to play C? I still wouldn't do it even if he will. Or that playoff experience. Love and Pekovic are killing it.
