Default Tim Duncan exercises $10.3M option

Tim Duncan has decided to continue his career for an 18th season with the San Antonio Spurs and has exercised his $10.3 million player option for next season, the team announced Monday.

TIMMY back for another kick at the can for only $10 mil.

If I remember correctly, when he signed this deal, the ownership wrote on the offer sheet $14 mill. He scratched it out and wrote in $10 mill.

Maybe one of you sleuths can confirm this.

Love to see a SAS repeat.

I think this upcoming year will be Timmy's last. I would like to see San Antonio repeat too, but I'm happy that Timmy at least got his 5th ring.

If they repeat I can see him signing for another 2 years.

I agree, if they keep winning he would probably sign an extension, but I thought he wouldn't have picked up his option for this upcoming season and instead decline it and sign a 2yr deal but for less money per year. That way they would have some extra spending money to help re-sign valuable players like Diaw, Mills and Bonner (first two are definitely going to get a raise, Diaw will get a sizable one).

Re-signing those players shouldn't be a problem, except maybe Mills if he gets more money elsewhere.
