Thunder To Consider Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy If Extension Talks With Brooks Collapse

Quote:

Scott Brooks and the Thunder are still working on a contract extension.

Brooks' contract expires on July 1st.

Sources told ESPN.com this week that the Thunder have offered Brooks an annual salary "north of $4 million."

Sources say the front office has brainstormed internally about possible replacements in case talks collapse. Jeff Van Gundy and Phil Jackson have been mentioned.

hehehe maybe that's the one team that Jackson found intriguing....

Jeff Van Gundy and Harden would not mix. JVG would cut him right away for his flopping hahaha

Phil Jackson would be epic though. I think he'd go for it, taking Durant under his wing like he did MJ.

Blazers have no Coach. Scotty Brooks has Seattle ties. Paul Allen lives and works in Seattle. Blazers have no Coach. We got an provisional coach, but Scotty Brooks just went to the Finals.

Toby 06-22-2012 07:41 PM

I'm sure they'll re-sign him. Not like OKC lost money making it to the Finals or anything.

I think you forgot to mention that the Blazers have no coach:police:

Not sure Phil likes the PG Westbrook. I dunno I just heard from Laker fans how he'd detest having a PG like Sessions or Westbrook, those new pgs. They do have Fisher so maybe he'd play Westbrook mostly at the two then :s
They also have no post players... isn't that the key for the Triangle Offense?

Carlos Danger 06-22-2012 10:14 PM

Did Jackson run the triangle with the Bulls?

Yes...

The triangle has won 11 of the last 22 championships.

If the Thunder get either one, theyre instantly the favorite next year. If they had either one this year they would have won.

Bahhhh, who knows.

They should hire JVG for sure.

If Phil were to coach I'm sure that he would move Westrook to SG and find a PG.

Not necessarily.... if Phil brought the triangle to OKC the need for a true PG would go out the window.

Van Gundy would probably want one though.

I'm only 19, too young to remember 90s ball(unfortunately), so I didn't know.

Shame too, it's my favorite era. Golden age of the nba

I'm 21 so I don't remember the 90s much either. I guess I just know from watching so many Hardwood Classics lol.

Westbrook is more of a slasher.
a PG that can limit turnovers and knock down the outside shot consistently would work better.

Yup. Westbrook can be like Kobe in the triangle. Obviously not as good, but still. They would need a PG who can shoot spot up threes and is a smart player. Triangle requires high bball IQ and good passing ability. That's why Fisher was so effective in the triangle, because he could shoot, was smart, had the ability to make an entry pass into the post, and wasn't afraid to take the last shot.

You don't need a traditional PG for the triangle, just a player who has those abilities I mentioned.

bjjs 06-23-2012 09:04 AM

Might as well trade Westbrook - he's effective because he has the ball in his hands.

Put him at SG with a PG who's main prerogative is to feed Durant....touches go way down.

29/30 other teams would gladly pay him a lot of money to play his preferred position.

Bill Haverchuck 06-23-2012 05:23 PM

The Thunder are one of the youngest teams in NBA history to make the finals and were 3 wins away from being champions and people are already talking about what they do wrong? If you just left the team alone, aside from a couple of minor changes that might have to be made for financial reasons, you've got a beast team for years. Some of you want to risk messing all of that up?

I'm not entirely convinced that they are automatically better with Westbrook being moved to SG. They already have a top 3 offense in the league. Some of you don't seem to understand that. If anything, there defense needs to improve just a little bit, so they can get key stops. If you move Westbrook to SG, Sefolosha will be coming off the bench and probably playing fewer minutes. So any PG you get needs to not only be making sure Westbrook and KG maintain their touches, but also give you something on defense so that you're not losing a lot on that end.

With the exception of the last one, they were in those games against Miami. It was close. The difference does not require a massive change.

ClutchCity 06-23-2012 11:25 PM

How would this work though? If OKC isn't willing to pay Brooks, then surely they won't be willing to pay Phil...

Am I missing something here? :confused2:
