he hustles his ass off every night and gives fits to every big man in the league while still being disrespected for being too short of a big man, joel may not average 20 and 20 but he's still a respectable player

This.

No one's saying that he's an all-star..... but he's a guy who ANY team would want to have IMO. Just watching the D that he played on Amare (when he was torching EVERYONE in the league) sold me 100%.

Guy can flat out play D.

One game does not make a player, as Jeff said, he avgs less than 4 boards a game. Its nice he plays D, but he rarely does anything else. Hes not even blocking a lot of shots this year. He is the definition of a scrub.

Hes not anywhere near Reggies level. Reggie can have an impact on most games he plays in if he gets 15+ mpg, Joel only affects 1 out of every 7 games on
average I'd say this year. He was better last year.

When you get demoted from being Miamis opening day starting C to a bench player who gets erratic minutes and sometimes hardly play at all, you know you're a scrub.

That i disagree with, he averages 1.5blk in 20mpg. That's pretty good imo. Bargs averages 0.8blk in 36mpg.

Still a scrub though.

Shame on you Thrills... you should know better.

Anthony is in the top 20 for blks/gm in spite of the fact that he plays less than 20 min/gm.... and I'm not judging his performances based on ONE game... he's been impressive in quite a few of them.

In his last 8 games he's avging 6 RPG and 1.75BPG all in 26MPG.... and he ALWAYS plays solid D whether it's man to man or help.

As for "barely playing at all"? He's played less than 10 min in EIGHT games this season... that's it.

He's a key part of that Heat team. Once the playoffs roll around he'll become even MORE important.

1 - Thriller conceded that Anthony plays D, so no point disputing that. He does. He is an okay defender, for his size. But he also gets pwned by bigger players. I remember watching him play Orlando and getting 5 fouls in a matter of minutes. He is a good insurance policy to have against smaller, quicker guys, like Amare.

2 - As Thriller mentioned, the dude does nothing else. He played over 40 mpg last night (probably becaues of Atlanta's mobile bigs) and he didn't even shoot the ball. He has no offensive game at all. You can hide him on Miami because he fits their scheme. It's not as easy elsewhere. He'd be a problem on other teams.

3 - Haslem is hurt. That provided Anthony with added opportunity, since he is now their more mobile big. Damp and Z can't guard more mobile bigs. He'd be playing even fewer minutes if Haslem was around to guard the smaller opposing bigs.

In my opinion, he is a decent insurance policy type player, so long as you don't pay him much. But he is not a legit starter, and he might not crack the top 8 rotation on most 50 win teams. Scrub? Maybe not. But he is not exactly boner inducing.

he's a scrub.
honestly, you throw any mobile 7footer on that heat team and tell them they have one job - protect the paint - and 9 out of 10 of them will do just that.

how can a guy who plays 20 minutes a game and averaging 1 fg attempt per game, not be considered a scrub?
throw him on a team without Lebron and Wade and Bosh and this guy would look like another Collins brother.
the fact that he averages 1.5 blocks a game means nothing when everything else about him screams shit.
scrub.

we overemphasize on the word "scrub", thats the patrick o'bryants and james whites of this league, who sits his ass everyday and collects paychecks and doesn't do shit improve.

joel is a role player, and a good one that hits the gym everyday to stay in this league and compete, just because he's one dimensional does not mean he's useless in any system. I can see him fit right in with the bench in OKC, Portland or cleveland (lol) just because of his pure hustle.

damn i can't beleive were discussing about joel anthony so heatedly lol, this must clearly mean that our team is so shit.

We are, but what does that have to do with that scrub? I'll take any of our Bigs other then maybe Alabi over Anthony.

you just called him a pretty good a post ago, alabi has the potential but hes not proven yet, thats why he got sent to the d-leauge even being 7 feet while joel, being undersized and undrafted became a role player for the heat.

watch him play and all he does is disrupt defensive rebounders by either tapping it out or boxing out 1 - 2 dudes at a time, thats a role player, not a scrub.

Joel Anthony is a beast on defense and rebounding. Offensively, he's not going to do much.

In the end, he's a player I would want on my team to play some backup minutes.

Beast? 3.5reb in 20min is a beast? That constitutes a beast these days?

Statistically, he's unappealing. But if you watch the games, he boxes out very well and limits his opponent on the offensive glass.

Another amazing stat regarding the Heat. I read that all of James Jones' baskets have been assisted this year. No long rebounds, no points off of steals or putbacks, nothing created off the dribble. Not once! Amazing.
