That wouldn't be nearly enough. The CBA would have to change as well. With the current RFA component of the CBA, max level players don't have as much bargaining room to dictate where they go, since there is always the threat of the original team matching. To avoid a matched offer, the player has to risk playing out the RFA year without a longterm contract before they can make themselves unrestricted. Few, if any, max level players would take that risk, since they haven't had the chance to bank their first monster contract yet. As I said to you on several occasions, that's a significant part of why Bosh was willing to re-sing with the Raps in 06', as opposed to his willingness to force the issue in 2010.

It's true.
And I for one live it. It gives so much more power to the drafting team and means more loyalty.

Isn't that where the Sign & Trade comes in?

I understand the point that you're trying to make, but if you're going to tell me that Griffin is guaranteed to be a Clipper for the next 7-8 seasons I'm calling B.S.

It may be a pipedream to think that he'd end up here... but I don't think it'd be a stretch at all to see him demand to go elsewhere.

Always possible, but unlikely. S & T of max players are just not as likely at that stage, since drafting teams usually want to keep their max level player. When you hold the bargaining power, why trade away a max level talent? It's more likely to happen after the 2nd contract is up and big Griff is UFA.

Go ahead and "call "what ever you want. I don't care. My oringinal response was regarding you using the phrase "when his rookie contract is done". That's different than 7 or 8 years. Let's review the situation.

Blake missed a full season already. Is this the type of player who would risk playing out his RFA year so that he can become UFA? Highly unlikely. So, with that in mind, the ball is in the Clippers court at the end of the ROOKIE CONTRACT, which is the intial timeline you mentioned. I'll return to the 7-8 years point later.

To be clear, if he gets injured to the point where his worth is in question around the league, and it's not 100% clear that he is max level, that changes things. It's more plausible that a team will S & T a RFA who is not clearly max level, because there might be concerns about overpaying. In that case, a team is probably more open to a trade. But in that scenario, you're getting a damaged big Griff.

Sure, he can demand to go elsewhere. I never said he couldn't. But the Clippers will have no reason to move him at the end of his rookie contract, unless big Griff takes a huge financial risk and plays out his RFA. Want to bet on that happening?

After he has his max deal signed with the Clipps, it becomes more likely that he could go. But there is a difference between the liklihood of something increasing, on the one hand, and it actually being likely (a high percentage chance), on the other hand. A couple of years into his 2nd deal, maybe the Clipps move him if they get a super awesome offer or if he is hurt. But they have no reason to move one of the most exciting players in the league until a terrible situation occurs, like another knee injury.

You can stop right there.

My comment wasn't intended to be taken as gospel.... it was just idle chat... a pipedream like I said.

No need for the dissertation.

If that was really true, I think you would have said that after my first response, instead of saying that "I call b.s" line. You just keep going, which suggests you need things crammed into your head.

Nice try with the dissertation joke. I believe I said this with my first post:

Which would have made it the right time to say "just making idle chat".

Yet, unsurprisingly, you still pushed things.

Try as you might.... you will never "cram anything in to my head". This is a messageboard. I have my opinions... you have yours. Neither is 100% right. And therein lies the problem... you seem to feel as though your opinions are irrefutable as long as you try to make your posts as long as possible.

Once again... you have a lot of good info and your knowledge of the game can be impressive... but more often than not you come off like a dick (to me).

I agree with most of what you said, including me being a dick, except the problem is some opinions are actually 99.9% wrong. That's why I can be a dick. Some opinions are not 100% wrong, but damn close. And I'm not talking about this specifc topic but in general terms with that remark. A lot of misleading stuff gets posted. /end dickishness/

That's fine.... I'm sure that more than a few people here think that I'm a dick too... and they might be right.

BTW, this is a part I don't agree with. I frequently post long stuff because I'm responding point by point, whereas others will sometimes completely ignore or doge points people make.
