i don't think his numbers are outstanding. those turnovers are too large of a negative for my liking.

i'm actually quite surprised that you're so large on him. you seem to criticize brandon jennings a fair bit, yet, in my opinion, he's a fair superior player.

High turnover numbers aren't uncommon for a young PG in his first YEAR... much less his first few starts. Add in the fact that he's had to play MAJOR minutes (fatigue) and the fact that teams have been able to load up on him in the absence of Amare and Melo and it's not surprising.

As a 1-on-1 player Jennings probably IS the superior player.... but basketball isn't a 1-on-1 game.

I like efficient, unselfish, "team-first" guys.... always have. Esp. at the PG position. Jennings strikes me as an Ellis/Westbrook type. A guy who can put up big numbers if you give him a lot of shots and a guy who's going to rely on a lot of isos to get those shots. Not a fan of that style of play. A major reason why I've never been an MJ fan and why I not a huge Kobe fan either.

high turnover rate is one thing, but six is something you see in the summer league. i suppose your reason could be legit considering he has taken on a huge role for the team, but it's still an issue regardless to all that.

also, i haven't seen teams load up on him at all. he's caught people by surprise, although teams are definitely taking notice, they're not revolving their defensive schemes solely around him. remember, we're looking at a seven game sample here.

i don't think jennings is the type of player you suspect him to be

Well, aside from when you wanted Ellis to run the point here.

Well, at least now you're being consistent by including Ellis when you talk about Jennings that way.

On the issue of turnovers, in TORaps defence, the article P-Panda posted is interesting. In absolute numbers, Lin's turnovers look really bad. But when you place those turnovers in the context of usage rate and his assist percentage, it's much easier to forgive him.

Make no mistake, once Melo is back and Lin has had a dozen games or so under his belt I'll be much less forgiving in regards to the turnovers. As long as he continues to pile up the assists as well he'll avoid major criticism (IMO). Utah, Minny and LA paid close attention to him in those games.

Re: Jennings... it's possible that Jennings could surprise me. I'm certainly willing to eat crow if he proves me wrong. I just don't think that the "pass-first" mentality is in his DNA though.

i read it, but applying a formula to a turnover means nothing to me. turning over the basketball is turning over the basketball. the only thing that varies is whether it came from an offensive foul or an errand pass or a teammate not being where he should have been. some are more excusable than others, but at the end of the day, you gave the opposition an extra opportunity to score.

How about those Knicks fans hating on poor Isaiah Thomas as if he was Isiah Thomas?

I would not be booing Lin. I might even cheer for him, though not in the ACC. What Thomas saw and heard, was real hate. As hilarious as it was, that was hate, not what Lin looks at. He's plain laughing at life right now, when he's not praying and being asked to campaign for Gingrich.

I feel really bad for that kid....

Can't imagine what he's had to go through playing the point and having that name. From the little I've seen of him though he's been decent. It's a shame.

sure, then his turnovers should only really become an issue when they're losing games. fact is every player has their weakness(es), its how good is the rest of their game that covers there weakness that separates players from one another. I'll take a pg that picks his spots, attacks the rim fearlessly and runs an offense with good ball movement if it comes with turnovers, over a Calderon thats trying to play keep-away

I don't want to turn this into yet another Calderon thread but I'd say that BOTH PGs have been pretty darn good over these last half dozen games.
