You may have to check your sources... I'd think it's 51% on account of the dominant ginger genes.

ffensive:JJ Barea never got this attention when he was doing the same thing in the NBA championships, and I would think that being under 6'0 he would be far more inspirational to Asians, both American and Chinese alike.ffensive:

I find interesting how in North America people are so politically correct and then they care so much about what race a player is. Who really cares? All I see is a basketball player.

It's just something different. Something outside the norm.

If Barcelona FC signed a woman tomorrow an she scored a goal in her 1st game do you think that people would be saying "I don't notice that she's a woman... I just see a football player"?

I'm stretching it a bit but I'm sure you get my point.

People are inspired and happy about it. Nothing wrong with that.

Thats not really a fair comparison. At all. And people here would stop caring after one day if it happened. Nobody cared when the first black player played for the soccer National team.
What I really want to point is the contradictions. The contradiction of how people are constanty pointing out in one way or another the difference between races and its ok, but then some guy somewhere says the word nigger and the world goes up in arms.

An example would be when the Spanish team made a dumb photo with the oriental eyes (the idea was obviously to send the message "for a little while, we are all chinese for the olympics", bad idea thats true) and americans (nobody else) found it extremely offensive.
But then its completely fine to go "look an oriental guy that can play ball! thats something!".

I'm not sure that I grasp your comparisons either..... why would anyone in Spain (or anywhere for that matter) care about a black football player? Blacks have been playing (and excelling) at the sport for decades. It's neither new or novel.

There's a marked difference between "Hey! Look at that Tiger Woods! Man! A black (and asian) kid that's awesome at golf! You don't see that everyday!" and dropping racial slurs.

If Lin can excel in the league then maybe he inspires more asians to take up the sport (and take it seriously). Maybe he shows them that YES, it IS possible for a person of asian descent to make it in the best league in the world.... the same way that guys like Spudd Webb and Muggsy Bogues and Earl Boykins proved that you don't have to be over 6ft to play this game.

Sean Gregory of Time wrote of Lin's zero Division I scholarship offers: "[Lin] was scrawny, but don't doubt that a little racial profiling, intentional or otherwise, contributed to his underrecruitment."[86] Lin said: "I'm not saying top-5 state automatically gets you offers, but I do think (my ethnicity) did affect the way coaches recruited me. I think if I were a different race, I would've been treated differently."[87]

Lin's high school coach, Peter Diepenbrock, said that people without meaning any harm assume since Lin is Asian that he is not a basketball player. The first time Lin went to a Pro-Am game in Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco, his coach said, someone there informed him: "Sorry, sir, there's no volleyball here tonight. It's basketball."[88] During Lin's college career, fewer than 0.5% of men's Division 1 basketball players were Asian-American.[86][87]

Lin has regularly heard bigoted jeers at games such as "Wonton soup", "Sweet and sour pork", "Open your eyes!", "Go back to China", "Orchestra is on the other side of campus", or Chinese gibberish.[6][86][87] Lin says this occurred even at most if not all Ivy League gyms. He does not react to it. "I expect it, I'm used to it, it is what it is," says Lin.[86] The heckling came mostly from opposing fans and not as much from players.[89] According to Harvard teammate Oliver McNally, a fellow Ivy League player did once call Lin a "chink".[86]
