Just watched an Arena Link video. He thanks Jesus Christ his lord and savior.

I watched the highlights of the New jersey game and what I could find of the Utah one (in addition to TORap's helpful post).

The thing is, he seems to get into the paint really easy, and makes sharp pases. He looks better than a 3rd string point guard, in my opinion. That much I'm confident about this early.

But - and this may just be a limitation of the clips I found - I don't see him being forced to take 15+ foot jumpers. So, like 'trane was suggesting, I want to see what happens when teams plan for this guy. Based on his quickness and willingness to get into the paint, I could see this going on for 10+ games. I want to see what happens if he is forced to shoot more, though, assuming teams are even able to make him do that.

Having a couple of scorers around him, like Melo and Amar'e, puts Lin at an advantage over a guy like Jennings, who caught the league completely off-guard but was brought back to earth, in part, because the opposition knew he would dominate the ball. Lin can pick his spots, if they manage to make it work.
I hear ya.

Thing is, you watch enough ball you can tell which guys are just playing, and which guys are actually thinking their way through a game. Lin, who will no doubt face much stiffer attention in the coming games, thinks his way through plays, you can see it. He reminds me of Nash, only young, and tall and fast.

None of what he is doing is dominating from a physical standpoint, his patience on the roll is unbelievable, and his decisions to take it to the rack are crisp, he doesn't do it half speed.

he has one of those fundamental shots that is bound to get better over the years as well. Good pick up for the Knicks.

As for his late shot clock prowess... give it time, he has to face it numerous times to adjust to it. Seems he's good at finding plays before it gets to that point though. And when they do toss two guys at him.... well shit, he only has Melo and Amare and chandler to toss it to... I think he's gonna be ok.

Just as I said about Derozan though, it's easy to put up numbers in nothing games when nobody cares or is watching. The real test is on prime time when it means something. The poressure is immense and it really does matter. Guys on shitty teams get the luxury of playing under much less pressure, we'll see how Lin fares on a Sunday afternoon NBC/TNT tilt against the lakers or Miami after its been hyped for a few weeks. If he can pull 20 and 10 in that game, he's the real deal. hell, 15 and 7 and he's still pretty good.

We'll see, great story man, love seeing the Rudy Rudigers of the world succeed.

you reading the same thread?

thing is, guys like me and a few other, were just happy for the guy. it's a fun story and a good one and there is absolutely no reason why it can't continue. you just wonder why guys get so angry and start using words like "over rate", which, is by far the most improperly used word on the internet.

I like to call it as I see it, right now what i see is good, and I will talk about how good it is because it pleases me

it pleases me.

when guys suck, I do the same because it pleases me. (derozan).

When guys dig out of holes, I will praise, and it will...please me. (hopefully derozan)

It's called being a fan and enjoying the entertainment. The level or depth at which you choose to view things is entirely your choice. I see no reason however to get all angry about things or somehow take it personally that other guys are blowing sunshine up some guys ass.... know what I mean?

The second half of the Utah game was quite different. Why no highlights posted of that?

Imagine Marbury playing in Asia (if he's still playing at all) and seeing this and simmering over how he knows he could do the same thing, 8 turnovers and all.

He's playing well and being given free reign, but it doesn't mean a whole lot over two games. It just doesn't. If this was happening in Indiana we'd hardly hear about it. I don't even remember hearing about how Rubio's quality play over 20 games has landed him a starter's spot in Minny, except for an off-handed comment made the other day on some broadcast. And Rubio gets short shrift when it comes to being considered for rookie of the year. Put him in NY and there would be no end of the yattering about him, to the point where it would probably become bothersome.

Well you're right, two games is hardly a career, I'm just saying it's fun to watch.

As for Rubio...come on man, he's been getting hype for five years.... his location is keeping under the radar but he's still all over NBA.com.

Looking not bad too!

from not playing at all and then playing 44 min all of a sudden. all 8 turnovers came in the 2nd half so for sure fatigue played a big part. in the first quarter lin went to the bench with a 7 point lead i believe and sat 3 mins utah had a 1 point lead. those where the only minutes he didn't play the whole game. and NY lead the rest of the game

also, the reason why he's blowing up now is because this came out of nowhere! not entirely because he plays in NY. rubio, jennings, they were all draft picks. lin was undrafted. no one saw this coming. if rubio had a 28-8 game people would say he had a good game. he was a 5th overall pick. people knew about him. an undrafted guy that no one knows anything about has a 28-8 game, in his 2nd meaningful game, 1st career start. he had a GREAT game!!

he's getting praise because people like a good story. what he had to go thru to make it to the nba and now having some short term success is a good story and people are rooting for him to succeed. no one is saying he's an allstar or anything. how is he overrated?

I didn't say anything about how he is rated. I said the NY media is going overboard, and I stand by that, and it's easy, because it's what the NY media does. There's no doubt that it's a story, but it's being made out as much more, as though the Knicks have found their savior, and that is hardly clear.

ya, the overrated comment was directed to those that said on this thread. i just didn't want to make 2 posts.
i agree, the media is going overboard. i hope he handles it well. fans are going crazy and having fun, which i think is harmless
from what i've seen so far i think he's capable of starting in this league or a very good 2nd string. i mean, there are worse starting pg's

to the tebow comparison: ya they're both christian and thank god. tebow won the heisman, went to a football school and had one of the best college careers ever. in the pro's he's been given every opportunity to make mistakes. i have a bad feeling Lin won't be as lucky but i hope it's not that way

Easy LX, I got nothing against Rubio... sheesh. Just saying, since he was a wee lad we have been hearing about his genius. Dassssal.

As for turnovers...meh, only an issue if you arent whipping ass...Nash was a Turnover machine while he was dominating the Nba for 3-4 years

Gotta crack a few eggs to make a cake.... sadly, not as many chefs out there trying to make cakes as there are Home Ec. failures.

I only posted the 1st half highlights because at the time that's all I could find. The criticism about the TOs is unwarranted though. He played the whole damn 2nd half without a rest. 44 min in total for the game! That's a bit ridiculous considering he was a benchwarmer a few nights ago. Takes some getting used to.

Contrary to what you believe, YES, we WOULD be talking about this kid if he played in Indiana or Utah or wherever else.... because the fact of the matter is that an ASIAN PG starting (and playing well) in the NBA just isn't something that you see every day.

Rubio doesn't get enough praise? Wha? Where have you been? LOL.... We were talking about him non-stop during the 1st dozen games or so that Minny played. I think I even said something to the effect of "I'd cut my left nut off for him to sign with us in a couple years". Rubio's been doing this for a little while now though... and he was expected to be very good.... Lin wasn't. That makes all the difference. BTW... for the record, Rubio has my ROTY vote.

Just do yourself a favour and try to ignore the media coverage (hard as that may be). Just watch the kid play. If you're a fan of basketball (which I know you are) I don't see how you can't enjoy watching him out there.
