Suns Suns wanted Hedo gone in training camp

Howard gets help now, gets change. Hedo had nothing left in Toronto, and even less in Phoenix. “They wanted to trade him halfway through training camp,” one league executive said.

The Magic Turkoglu, which they thought only couldn't work in Toronto.

I'm sorry, but the atrocity of this whole scenerio rests on our shoulders. I still feel shitty knowing that Colangelo signed him to that ridonculous contract.

He was going to get 50 million... his value at the time he signed was quite good coming off the years in Orlando. It wasn't that bad a contract at the the time it was signed. He just didn't play up to it.

Exactly... not to mention he was huge in that playoff run. Guy was hitting shots like crazy and bouncing with swagger like he couldn't be stopped.

We all had high hopes for Turkoglu.
He looked so good during that playoff run.
But it may have gone to his head a bit. Maybe being back in Orlando will bring back the old Hedo.
I for one doubt it,

I agree, it was a good contract at the time.

In theory, it should have worked out. Orlando and Toronto had very similar systems, with a big in the middle surrounded by three point shooters.

Toronto needed a backup point guard at the time (didn't have Jack yet), so they figured Turkoglu can step up on the ball handling if Jose were to go down.

They wanted to please Bosh, and hoped Turkoglu would improve his game with his passing abilities.

Disagreed. it was a terrible contract then and it's even worse now.

Turkoglu has had motivation issues in the past, was never very athletic or in great shape, and worse of all the contract was only based on a very limited sample size of good play. Oh and he was already old.

toronto fans at the time (myself included) seemed happy because a 'big name' free agent chose us, but never did anyone say it was a good deal or a good value. Guys let's be real, it was a horrible contract.

I don't think it was a horrible contract. Yogi Stewart's was a horrible contract. JYD's was a horrible contract. Portland was willing to pay as much, and Orlando's offer was close to ours, just without the fifth year. I had no problem with the contract at the time, Colangelo was in his off-season god-like upswing. Whatever man.
Now it looks like an Albatross of a contract because of his play, and ego. But at the time, it's what you pay someone of his caliber, somewhere between max money and exception money.

Small sample size? He had 3 good seasons prior to signing that contract including winning MIP in 07-08 and being one of main reasons Orlando got to the finals in 2009.

sorry, but i can't let it go boys.

A contract should only go from good to horrible for one legit reason. Injury. other than that, it just shouldn't happen. It was a bad deal from the start in my eyes.

I agree with fancy. I could understand paying him $10M/yr based on past performance.... but for FIVE years? That was just insane given his age and his typical conditioning. Should have been 3 years tops.

At least POR dodged THAT bullet lol.... could you imagine if they'd have got him? Oden done.... Roy almost done... and Hedo.... yikes. Talk about a trainwreck.

Watching Marion is DAL still makes me very sad.... he can still play... and unlike Hedo he never needs the ball, plays D and does all the little things to help a team win. He & Chandler were huge pick-ups for the Mavs this off-season.

Didn't we try to get Ariza, but he rejected our offer?

ya..... i remember we did, he chose to sign for less cash with Houston, we offered him a similar deal to Hedo's. Lose for him in retrospect though... he could have been freakin HUGE here.
