Suns sign Dudley to a 5yr/22.5Mil extension

Quote:
The Phoenix Suns and forward Jared Dudley have come to an agreement on a five-year $22.5 million extension just before the 12 am EDT deadline.

Dudley becomes the fourth member of the 2007 draft class to receive an extension along with Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Mike Conley, Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah, and Atlanta Hawks big man Al Horford, who received his extension earlier Monday. The details of the deal were first reported by Fanhouse.

Dudley, originally drafted 22nd overall in 2007 by the Charlotte Bobcats, came to Phoenix along with Jason Richardson in a 2008 trade with the Bobcats for Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Sean Singletary.

Dudley maintained all summer that he would love to stay in Phoenix and avoid free agency. After signing the extension Dudley released the following tweets: "First off have to give God all the glory and praise because without him this could not be possible and my family for always supporting me. Gotta also thank Alvin Gentry for giving me an opp. to show the world what I can do. Can't forget Steve Nash, he gets everybody paid!!!"

very fair deal. almost a bargain for the Suns consider the other contracts that have been passed out.

he brings defense and hustle and can knock down the 3 at the other end.

It is when it's not my money.

And to be honest, this summer when that deal was given amidst other monstrosity contracts not many complained. But now after 3 games people are bitching.

Depends on what you think is expected from 5-6Mil/yr contract player 3 games in.

Earlier today, didn't you post a "captain obvious" pic in response to somebody?

Well, captain obvious says the salary cap and luxury tax still matter. Overpaying Amir hurts the Raps future flexibility, both in terms of Toronto's internal budgetsand the ability of the current or future GMs to trade Amir to another team (it's harder to move overpaid players, and in a couple of years the Raps might want to move Amir).

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure you were one of the people who initiallly thought the contract sucked. Not sure what's changed your mind.

Yeah but, overpayed by how much really? I mean seriously, 3 games into the season and now the sky is falling because he's now deemed to be a little overpayed? It's a little early to turn on him and his contract to that degree imo.

Yeah because if you recall the contract was originally reported to be for more money. What changed my mind was when we heard the real number, and saw the structure of the contract and add to that the other contracts given out this summer. If he's overpayed it isn't by much imo, at least not at this point.

We'll have to see if he can manage to stay on the court for 20 minutes before the final verdict is in. Maybe just part of the contract will turn out to be nasty. If contracts start to go down due to new labour negotiations, then it could be a fairly shitty back end.

For the record, my dissapointment stems from the fact that we KNOW that he would have signed for fewer dollars. He had a shit eating grin at the press conference when addressing the questions regarding the terms of the contract. I'm pretty sure he flat out said he would have signed for 4.5 per. And, I'm not sure if you remember or not, but last spring you thought $5 mill was a stretch. I'm just surprised by how you don't care much now.

Yeah i thought it was a stretch, but if i'm not mistaken he made around 4Mil last season and he had abit of a breakout year. So a raise was to be expected. Many here were also saying he was gonna get 5+Mil/yr and we may not be able to keep him.
