Stern will talk to Magic about Van Gundy comments

Quote:

Howard served a one-game suspension earlier this week after receiving his league-leading 16th technical foul.

Van Gundy responded to reporterís question about whether the Magic had addressed their concerns to NBA officials about the frequency Howard has been fouled this season. He took a shot directly at the leagueís top brass.

ďThis is the system David Stern and his minions like,Ē Van Gundy said. ďSo thatís the system you have. Ö I certainly canít have an opinion because David Stern, like a lot of leaders weíve seen in this world lately, donít really tolerate other peopleís opinion or free speech or anything. So Iím not really allowed to have an opinion. So itís up to him.

i love how david stern avoids SVG and goes straight to his boss. but SVG is right about howard getting fouled a lot and should be allowed to vent his anger without T's.

js12 03-10-2011 09:20 PM

I'd love to see Stern getting yelled at by Van Gundy.

Don Vito 03-10-2011 09:54 PM

I agree with Van Gundy. Howard gets fouled every play and you can't just keep it bottled up, you need to express yourself in some kind of way.

Superjudge 03-10-2011 09:56 PM

Teach howard to hit a free throw Van Gundy then shut up.

Honestly.

SomeDPlease 03-10-2011 10:09 PM

His argument that Howard's been fouled 600+ times and not one of them has been a flagrant is baseless. His views on technicals, however, is the same view most coaches, players, and fans have. At least someone is speaking up.

Van Gundy is awesome. I hope he tells Stern off. You can't just hit a guy with extra force because he's that much stronger.

DonMughal 03-10-2011 10:22 PM

The Van Gundy's have funny voices.

That is all.

jj33 03-10-2011 10:34 PM

Wow, not many people have balls to take a strike at Stern!!!

Beesh 03-10-2011 11:45 PM

I am with SVG on this one. U GO BROTHA!

Stern is probably plotting to overthrow SVG as we post

LilRomeo 03-11-2011 12:40 AM

Who's the King here ? Lol.

Stern said Van Gundy's comments stemmed from frustration with his own team, rather than with the league. "I see somebody whose team isn't performing, whose star player is suspended, who seems to be fraying," Stern said of Van Gundy.

When asked if he's worried about any more comments from Van Gundy, Stern said he doesn't expect Van Gundy to speak that way again.

"I would venture a guess that we're not going to be hearing from him for the rest of the season," Stern said. "I think when he stops and reads what he said, realizes what he did, he will say no more. ... I have a feeling some modicum of self-restraint will cause Stan, and the team for which he works, to rein in his aberrant behavior."

stern rules. i have no patience for van gundy. what a whiner. the nba's not a democracy dude. it's a business and you're an employee. don't like it? feel free to find another line of work.

LX 03-11-2011 08:04 AM

Stan van fraying? I think he's already something like a rope that has nothing left but a pile of separate strands of hemp. Don't get me wrong - I love that about him. I'd like to smoke some of that. There's just nothing left to fray. It's a permanent state of defrayment. Holy shit - my spell checker is going to ok that as a real word. Defrayment. Smoke that too.

Naj_Irban 03-11-2011 09:12 AM

Props, Stan. Props.

David? Bun.

bjjs 03-11-2011 09:29 AM

I'm sure Howard deserved every technical he has received. He has always been disrespectful in his protests and if he ever needed his coach to stand up for him, Van Gundy went about it completely the wrong way.

Dwight's whining shows a lack of control and a weakness, and Van Gundy is promoting this behavior by blaming the commissioner of all people. Chronicles of Riddickulous.

Stern shouldn't of said what he said in the media either. Prodding SVG into another reaction is senseless.
