Too many idiotic ideas.
First time he mentioned it was few years ago, I don't think it has anything to do with his legacy. Also don't know why you hate him, seems OK dude with OK ideas and OK job he did.

Stern has been anything but an idiot...his tenure has been way too long imho but he's made this league one of the best/most prominent in sports today

"Idiot" is just harsh and flat out wrong

Yeah, he's only been known as one of/the best commissioner in the four major sports and has held the job for 30yrs. What an idiot

All I will say is that anything is possible.

What I could envision is something like this:

Maintain the Eastern & Western Conferences in the USA & establish two conferences in Europe (East & West). You would establish/buy team names & rights to maintain a fan base (e.g. Real Madrid, Barcelona etc.).

Off the top of my head I'd have two teams in London, Madrid, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, Munich, Istanbul, Milan, Vilnius & Moscow (2 six team conferences). Essentially, you would have the champion of Europe play the champion of the US Conference to establish a true winner. An All-Star game writes itself.

The amount of road games each team would play there would be say 6 -8 (enough to say that NBA teams visit) and you'd significant teams (Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Thunder) would receive 'favourable' schedule treatment (don't kid yourselves, it happens) and play 6 p.m. games (noon here) on holidays to showcase the event (e.g. Columbus Day) that way ratings aren't harmed in the U.S.

The road trips would occur 3 games at a time (to minimize cost). Also, you'd cut some teams in the US to make the move to Europe (Charlotte, NOLA, Sacramento, Indiana come to mind). In 20 years, if you set the infrastructure up, I think it's completely doable. I don't know if it would work, but it would be interesting.

I think the other things you could do is do something similar to the Euroleague/Champion's League or even do a relegation/promotion format.

And I know it was mentioned above that owners would likely never give up 12 or so games. That's hogwash. Give those teams the ability to market globally (even small markets?) and I mean do it without having the NBA as a crutch and you can triple what you would make in 6 home games.

Again, doable in 20-25 years (hell, think about how much the world has changed since 1990).

From my point of view there's no need for the NBA to bring teams in Europe.
As many have said there're a lot of good teams in Europe, who shares talent with the other national leagues teams. If you create an European league with 20\30 teams in the whole Europe the talent level would increase drastically, given that the talent would concentrate from say 20 teams in a country to 3 teams in that same country.

While I absolutely on board with downsizing NBA and eliminating at least 3-4 teams from each conference I doubt that moving these teams over to Europe will improve quality of game. Sure it will bring huge revenue for owners and the NBA itself. Obviously hot markets like London, Madrid, Moscow... can bring much more ROI for organizations than Sacramento, Charlotte or New Orleans.

Stern is after the money. That's why I don't like him. He's been commercializing NBA too hard and giving not much attention to quality of game, quality of officiating and teams' competitiveness.

I see most part of the Europe not agreeing to this and I fully understand. No offence, but we love our basketball and our fan support, mostly people don't even like NBA because they think it's all about show, some call of them call it circus in which is played run and shoot basketball. Euroleague it's different it's about full arena's in which support is amazing.

I hope that won't happen, but if it will, I can only see starting in England. Why? Because they suck at it, they never had a team with history stepped forward, but they are good in economics and NBA means money I hope that won't happen, I'd rather see NBA going into Canada and South America, leave Europe out of this, we might not have ''best in the world'' players, but we would save our traditions and love for the game. And after seasons if you want to find out which team is better NBA champions or Euroleague champions, I think we would gladly accept the challenge.

Stern should play some Risk....maybe try to conquer your neighbor first before you go overseas? he can't even sustain more than 1 team in Canada why would he try to set up more teams in Europe? at least give Vancouver its team back and then he can talk.

Why would Vancouver, a failed market get another team? Won't happen.
