No chance in hell he lives up to the hype, not even up to the contract.
Lin's going to put up 12/6/5 next year (with that 5 being turnovers lol).
Nothing special.

I'm not a huge fan of Lin...but people are quickly forgetting a few facts..

1. Dude went toe to toe with Kobe and won

2. He calmly knocked down a game winning three at the buzzer over Ole Calderon

3. He took over like 8 games in a row at one point in an NBA season.

Scouting reports hadn't been developed on him by that point.

Also, when the Linsanity mania was in full throttle, Miami had a gameplan set to stopping Lin (as stated pre-game). He was totally exposed and completely shut down. It was actually embarrassing it was like he had no business even playing in an YMCA pick up game.

Good point...best team in the world had a set game-plan to stop him. I wonder how many players in the league Miami has created set game-plans for...? 20? 30?

So you're suggesting he's really good but has bad games every now and then, correct?

1) Yes, teams DID scout him by that point. The Lakers actually gameplanned for him but it didn't matter because Lin was so good at the pick & roll (a Laker weakness) that he shredded them anyway.

2) The comments regarding Lin's game against Miami are ridiculous.. I'm sorry... but they are. Best team (and defense) in the NBA and a PG with less than 10 starts under his belt (and a sub-par cast) is supposed to torch them? OK. Do you remember your boy Kobe shooting airball after airball in the playoffs against the Jazz?

The "teams hadn't scouted him" thing is such a cop out. That makes sense for maybe the first 3 games. After that teams were well aware of who he was. And it wasn't like he fell off the face of the earth afterwards, he just fell back down to a decent PG.

Lin is average at best imo. Should be interesting to see what he does in Houston with next to nothing there.

Pick and roll is a huge Laker weakness. All season they got exposed by even the worst point guards in the league. To suggest the Lakers were even an elite team last year is laughable. Where are you getting you're shit about the Lakers "game-planning" for Lin. By then it was his fourth start in the league lol.

What does Kobe shooting airball after airball in the playoffs against the Jazz have anything to do with anything lol.

I'm sorry, but I'll have to tell Bosh that you're cheating on him with Lin.

Uhhh.... the Lakers had Kobe, Bynum, Gasol and Artest last year. That's pretty far from horrible. There were probably only half a dozen teams that were clearly better.

4th start or no.... if you're Mike Brown and you've just seen an unknown PG torch 3 teams in row you're going to pay attention to him and watch a lot of film to see what he's doing. If he didn't... he's an idiot... and since Brown prides himself on being a defensive-minded coach it stands to reason that he wouldn't want the Lakers caught unaware.

I brought up Kobe shooting airballs to show you that even your hero had his struggles when he was a young player learning the game. He didn't come into the league dominating everyone game in and game out.

What does my appreciation for Lin's game have to do with my respect for Bosh (or Rondo or Marion or Noah etc)? Is it only possible to acknowledge and support ONE player in the NBA at any one time?

I was kidding about the Bosh jab, learn to take a joke.

Not elite doesn't mean you are horrible. The Lakers were a good team, not an elite team. They had major weaknesses last year, aka guarding the pick and roll and quite possible the slowest/worst PG combination in the league. When Lin played the Lakers, Derek Fisher was still starting for the team.

Do you even remember the first three teams Lin started against? The Nets, Jazz, and Wizards. It was really conceivable at that point to think this is just some PG who is getting his numbers against bad teams because he is playing so many minutes since there is no one else to play PG.

Mike Brown prides himself on being a defensive coach, but when you have got personnel that can't implement the ideas you have, there is nothing Mike Brown can do. Bynum and Gasol cannot guard the pick and roll if their lives depended on it.

I'm not saying Lin will be end up being a bench warmer again. I just don't think he will be a top 10, even top 15 point guard in the league next year.

His jump shot isn't the greatest and when we saw teams eventually start to go underneath ball screens and dare him to make the outside jumper, his game fell off.

Finishing with his left is also horrible.

It might be.... if any other PG in the history of the NBA (in his first 3 starts) had put up numbers like that. Lin broke a record that had been standing for something like 40 years. Maybe more.... so this was obviously more than Tony Delk going for 53 one day on a magical night.

He definitely has weaknesses. He's a young player learning to play the most difficult position in the league. It's to be expected. Even guys like Rubio, Wall and Irving aren't perfect and have holes in their game. Not sure why Lin deserves to be singled out here TBH.
