good choice. they don't have many bad contracts.

Shifty.py 12-07-2011 03:39 PM

they shouldn't have extended him in the first place

Exactly I was really surprised that they even did that last year.

TORaptor4Ever 12-07-2011 04:21 PM

Wonder where he'll end up...

No way he gets past waivers. It'll be a team with cap space. Us maybe - we need a 3.

JDMtors 12-07-2011 09:19 PM

So he is the 1st victim, of possibly many more to come still.

Wonder where he will go though. It will be nice to have him here for a year or 2 though. Im also assuming Denver as they are in need of a lot of players and have holes to fill

The Point Forward Posts So many questions after Spurs use amnesty on Richard Jefferson

'trane 12-08-2011 12:27 AM

throw 5 (maybe 6) mil at him in the waiver process. probably not enough, but easily worth it.

TORaptor4Ever 12-08-2011 02:51 AM

The article is bang on about Battier being a perfect replacement SF for the Spurs.

Can't get a better fit than that.

jeffb 12-08-2011 07:52 AM

Spurs need more youth.

I am shocked that people here think he will get 5, 6 or even 10 million from another team. By using the amnesty, the Spurs wipe his salaray out for cap purposes but they are still on the hook to pay him the full $10 million per year. When a team claims him off waivers, they need to indicate how much of his current salary they are willing to take on and I just don't believe any team is willing to let the Spurs off the hook by taking on a significant amount of the salary. In my view, the only way a team agrees to pay him in the 5 to 6 million range is if a team is significanty under the minimum threshold and needs to get over it and they believe he is the best fit. Otherwise, I expect a team to get him on the cheap. If no one claims him off waivers, he will end up with vet minimum.

jeffb 12-08-2011 11:14 AM

I think he'll get close to or a full MLE contract.

getting one of the top nba 3 point shooters and an athletic veteran wing that can defend and has experience for $5 mil per is a steal. a team (like toronto) that has space and needs a 3 would love to have a guy like that. if we signed him and amnestied calderon next year we'd still have loads of cap space, and we'd also have our answer for the starting 3 spot. seems like a slam dunk to me. letting san antonio off the hook is irrelevant in that scenario. as danh said, no way he passes waivers.

Ball Don't Lie 12-08-2011 12:17 PM

I think the most he gets is 4 years 16 mil. Hes an average player who cant hit the 3 consistantly nor get to the basket consistantly anymore. Hes really a solid 7th man at this point IMO.
