he shot 44% from 3 last year and was among the top in the nba.

also, unless he clears waivers without a deal, he can only get 3 years, as the team picking him up has to take on a prtion of teh existing deal, not give him a new deal.

if h clears waivers all bets are off.

By using the amnesty, the Spurs wipe his salaray out for cap purposes but they are still on the hook to pay him the full $10 million per year. When a team claims him off waivers, they need to indicate how much of his current salary they are willing to take on and I just don't believe any team is willing to let the Spurs off the hook by taking on a significant amount of the salary. In my view, the only way a team agrees to pay him in the 5 to 6 million range is if a team is significanty under the minimum threshold and needs to get over it and they believe he is the best fit. Otherwise, I expect a team to get him on the cheap. If no one claims him off waivers, he will end up with vet minimum.
i must admit i didn't think of your angle, might drive down the price a bit.

but as others have said, the amount of teams that could use a player like him!? There will be teams that want him and in the current climate i still think there will be a bidding war.

Is there any minimum or the offer that's given via amnesty?
If only 1 team bid, and offered him a penny, that's what he would get, and the spurs would have a 10 mil black hole they have to pay(off the cap).
Would be funny.

Isn't Jefferson just the kind of player we need at SF? Good defensively and great at 3-point shooting, plus he has plenty of experience. How cheap a deal could we get him for?

depends on how many waiver offers there are. i believe you only get one shot, so you have to put a competitive bid out there if you really want him. i wonder how much talking gm's will be doing behind the scenes to measure how many teams are interested in amnestied guys, or if it will be a silent bidding war that will lead to really big numbers.

I'm sure GM's will be talking a lot. Whether they tell the truth or not...

He played really well to start the season, but he's starting to stink again.
