Sports superstition and rituals

Yes it is offseason and it is very slow, so threads like this one are inevitable..
Do you have any superstitions or rituals that you do (even if you don't believe it) to help your team or you during the game (lucky jersey, move etc.)

Not really, but I have the same free throw warm up routine if that counts.

I remember growing up and playing baseball, if we were on a winning streak i'd wear the same socks without washing them until we lost.......And I was on some really good teams. One season we went 46-2 (not including tournaments). I have to admit, that season I broke that tradition. Could no longer take the stench. lol

Sometimes I close my eyes when the game is on the line, especially when opposite team takes a shot and the ball is in the air (while watching on tv) little ritual to make opponents miss, lets just say it didn't work all that well lately..

Ah, if it counts when watching Raptors basketball...

Yes, I close my eyes all the time. It's less about superstition and more about just not wanting to watch the other team score though.

I tend to scream & holler every game & curse when the game is lost, when watching raptors games like WTF!!!

When I play ball I always have to roll my socks down so they are under my heel or I can't get into a groove shooting...

As far as the Raps games I have no superstition or ritual.

no wonder we lose so much

I have a ritual of screaming at the refs through my TV when they make bad calls. People may be sceptical about it but you can be sure it helps.

When watching at home if we win i sit in the same seat and if we lose i switch seats.. Anything to get 2 wins in a row

lol, you reminded me about this movie I watched when I was a kid called Tiger Town. Baseball movie where a kid closes his eyes when his favourite batter is up to bat and he hits a home run every time.

I used to do this at exhibition stadium.... it never worked. I was so disappointed.

sports superstitions are fascinating. In normal life it's basically OCD! Hell, even in sports, when it gets out of hand it can be OCD. But, it can also be like a concentrating factor, a little confidence boost, a focusing thing.

i have zero belief in superstitions, but i always put my shorts on last, including trainers.

fancylad 08-27-2013 11:46 AM

no superstitions as a player, but i used to have fan superstitions. Lucky jersey's, lucky scarves, etc.

I say used to because for the last few years all of the teams i cheer for have been in the crapper no matter what 'lucky' item i tried out. Needless to say i stopped with the superstitions.

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 08-27-2013 02:56 PM

The only ritual I really have is for soccer. I never ever ever play a game on FIFA with my team (either club or country) the day before or of the team plays a match (especially a giant match).
