Cool Sponsorship Logo's on NBA jersey's

Quote:
The NBA Board of Governors will meet next month to discuss the possibility of adding sponsors to their jerseys.

Both players and coaches have expressed support in the concept.

"I've been trying to tell [the NBA]," Mark Cuban said. "If someone wants to give us $10 million, I'll make it happen."

Cuban believes it will become viable to David Stern if the money is substantial.

"If the amount's enough, David will jump up and down," Cuban said. "He's not going to do it for $200,000 from Power Balance, but if somebody offers us $25 million, it's done.

"We just have to work out the split with all the teams so everybody gets the benefits."

Club soccer teams have had sponsors on their jerseys for decades.

A Jurassic Park sponsorship would be pretty sick.

MGD and Ford too.

Sponsorship logo's on jerseys are tacky but I would get over it. Soccer fans don't seem to mind.

Hockey plasters their boards, Football puts sponsors on the field of play. Why doesn't the NBA just put them on their floors?

Football doesn't do it, hockey doesn't do it and baseball certainly would never do it, so why consider it for basketball? It's tacky and unbecoming and I would never buy a jersey if they started to do it. I didn't pay for a pizza pizza logo. I paid for the Toronto Raptors and whatever player on them I choose to endorse. Those soccer jerseys with Emirates and ING plastered all over them look like complete shit. I hope they take their heads out of their asses and realize that some things are more important than money, especially after getting a bigger slice of the BRI pie. You can name arenas and put ads up there all you like, but I don't ever want to have to see logos and mottoes when I'm seeing how a play develops on the floor. /endrant

I have to second what you said right there. The irony is that the consumer is paying money for a freakin' advertisement. If anything the damn consumer should be paid for being a walking AIG or Emirates billboard.

Exactly if they said they would reduce the commercials and length of time outs I'd be all for it but we all know that won't happen.

Soccer games are great for time. 2 hours and your done

I'm against it .......... but I know that money talks, and if the price is right David Stern, and the NBA owners, will endorse it.

Here in the UK, shirt sponsorship first appeared just over 30 years ago, and has now spread, so that just about every sport has it ........ even our basketball teams.

At first it looks awful, but after a while you become immune to it, and don't even notice it ......... except when you watch old games on classic ESPN (or some similar channel), and then spend the rest of the day dreaming of a more innocent time, when clubs didn't whore themselves out to big business and the tv companies.

My advice , is to try and encourage other forms of sponsorship, and keep the sanctity of the shirt for as long as you can. The one thing North American sports have to their advantage is a salary cap, so if other forms of revenue are sufficient, you won't need the extra that shirt sponsorship would bring in. Most major sports in the UK, don't have a salary cap; so shirt sponsorship is another way of increasing revenue, to attract better players.

i won't be bothered if it happens, but i'm not hoping it happens. There is just so much sponsorship in North American sports as it is. EVERYTHING in a stadium or arena is brought to you by some corporation or business, i'm pretty much immune to it myself. This post has been brought to you by Mcdonalds. i'm loving it.

this is there is little space on a basketball jersey. no sleeves to put anything on. can't remove the number and team name on the front. unless they put it under the number on the back.

in my eyes advertisements have become part of the look of the european jersey to the point where you just associate advertisements on jerseys to having a distinctly european feel. then you end up associating particular companies with teams, e.g. vodafone and manchester united. it can be done in a tasteful way, and i think the european club teams actually do a pretty good job of incorporating the ad most of the time. i don't hate it...but i'm not rooting for it or anything.

i think the scrolling ads on the press table and the baselines cover it pretty well....
