Default Sources: Kings Considering Buford, Wallace To Replace Petrie

Quote:
Sacramento Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive has started the process of finding a replacement for Geoff Petrie and is considering San Antonio Spurs president R.C. Buford, Golden State Warriors assistant GM Travis Schlenk and Memphis Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

Ranadive's focus, as is clear from some of the backgrounds of the people being considered, is on establishing a smart, winning tradition.

Ranadive is likely to assume control of the Kings later this week.

Ranadive is not expected to keep Keith Smart, but he wants a front office in place before the coaching search.

R.C. Buford would be a major coup if he were to leave the Spurs.

If Buford is available shouldn't we be interested?

I'd throw whatever amount of money and control he wants to get him here.

Agreed - though it might be just a wish list on Ranadives part. Never heard if Buford was a available so it was a surprise to see that name.

I mean, how much can a guy possibly achieve until he needs to move on.

Give him a challenge!

How though?

It literally requires a stud like Duncan for it all to work. That, combined with fiscal responsibility, a strong focus on international scouting and a no nonsense attitude towards the standards and ethics of the franchise seem like the keys.

If only it was so easy.

Duncan certainly helps from the basketball side. I'm referring more to how that franchise is run and their culture - all starts at the top with Buford. Sac would be so lucky.

Watch out, Kings may go Net style and buy themselves a semi-loaded team this offseason. They're rolling in some chedder now.

Well, it's probably more of a Ranadive wish list (or the medias's). If you're gonna create a winner might as well go for the top.
