Sonny Weems: ''I'm ready to play in the NBA again."

Sonny Weems' plan to make it back to NBA from Russia

Quote:

"These two games won't dictate whether I make my comeback to the NBA or whether I stay in Europe," Weems said. "This season, that's what will determine my future. But my resume so far has let coaches and GMs know that I'm ready to play in the NBA again."

"Once I got used to the European game, my game went to another level. I became more of half-court player and learned how to use the pick-and-rolls, and not just a run-and shoot guy,"

no question the guy is an NBA player. his future lies in playing good D and sticking open jumpshots consistently, which he showed he can do in Toronto. Too often I think he was forced to play outside of his skillset, i.e. shot creation, and wasn't always a good fit with DeMar considering neither guy could hit threes or dribble the ball at that point.

Would love to see us bring this guy back on a cheap 2-yr deal to see what he can do.

Still think that he had/has some potential. If his bballIQ has grown to match his physical skills I'm definitely intrigued.

Can we start thinking a little bigger?

if he did get better, and matured as a player he could be valuable especially as a lock down defender who score and run the floor

Look at our bench right now... you don't think he'd be a cheap upgrade? Plus, a guy who has some history/chemistry with DD and Amir so the learning curve probably wouldn't be as steep.

Don't really see the downside.

Why wouldn't I be? Weems was young and in spite of the fact that he had an NBA-ready body and decent athleticism he didn't understand his role and how to play the game. Seems to have a better understanding now.

He was a good defender and his mid range game was solid. If he'd take a Handsborough type deal I'd gladly bring him in.

I liked Weems before he became Chucky Weems. It'd bode well for him if he's no longer Chucky Weems.

Miami.

On a cheap contract, good proving ground with high visibility, bench player, play defense, get a ring. Maybe even money cautious OKC

Yeah maybe. But Weems is still fairly young and will want be looking to get as much cash or as much guaranteed cash as possible.

Unless he wants to prove himself like in the situation you've depicted.

We have no need for this guy we already have Ross who still needs more minutes to develop. At least Ross is a chucker with potential and plays pretty good D just needs to increase his IQ which playing time should help.

Weems' D >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ross's D.

Ross isn't getting more minutes (or he shouldn't) until he learns to play the game properly. It isn't all about 3s and open court dunks.

Big deal, honestly if we're ever going to win we can't be talking about bringing back scrubs that didn't work here already. Christ, this fanbase is such a defeated bunch. :sigh:

I like how a guy can play well for 1.5 seasons and it's the .5 that we focus on lol....

He was fine here when he played under control and knew his role. If he's matured and he's a cheap add I don't see what the problem is. Contracts like his (most likely) and Handsborough's aren't going to break a team. It's the Rudy Gay contracts that fuck you over in the end.

True. However, TR is also 5 years younger and a first round pick in his sophomore year. Stuff like that tends to equate to playing time http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=...ng&w=350&h=254

How come they only play 30 games in the Euroleague?

Because the matchdays/fixtures are akin to football/soccer.
