He's a hype guy. Gets big dunks, is active...sometimes. But he isn't a winner.

I could care less what he thinks. I'm Atlanta I jettison this guy because they will NEVER be a complete team with him there. There is more to basketball than flash.
16.7 points
8.5 rebounds
4 assists
1.3 steals
2.3 blocks

That's what he gives Atlanta in 35 min a game. If he is only active sometimes, then imagine what he could do if he actually tried!!!

On a more serious note, I say no to the max. But he's definitely worth more than Bargnani money.

What bothers me mostly about Smith is his decision making. He does some really knucklehead stuff, like jack a 3 when he is guarded by a guy who Smith can eat alive in the post. But, when he is on, he impacts the game in so many ways.

i've always thought of smith as an empty stat type of player. dudes like him, wallace and kirilenko have never impressed me all that much. there presence on the court is best fit for fantasy basketball.

FYI, the new CBA throws a bit of a twist into scenarios like this, because it could cost Dwight some serious guaranteed money.

For example, suppose during the offseason Atlanta throws the max at Dwight and he accepts. Dwight can only sign for 4 years, no matter what. He can only sign for 4 years, even if the Lakers agree to a sign and trade. The new CBA prevents 5th years on S&T transactions, and also limits raises on contracts involved in S&Ts.

For this reason, it's better for teams to try and trade for Howard at the deadline. Otherwise, the Lakers have some leverage that never existed before. Players always assumed that if they wanted to leave, their current team (birds rights owner) would S&T him in order to get at least somethng back. But now that option is unavailable. The birds rights team is the only team that can give 5 years, no matter what. If a player wants to walk, they have to leave some serious coin on the table and hope they don't get injured or their game doesn't fall off dramatically in the next 4 years; otherwise it costs them boatloads of cash.

So, this could be interesting at the trade deadline. You might see Howard start demanding a trade, if he does not want to re-sign with the Lakers and does not want to take a paycut. If he wants out and wants as much guaranteed money as possible, he will start petioning for the Lakers to move him.

way to justify your thought process. if you want to make a point you need to back it up. what was the point of you taking a personal attack on me when you could have backed up your reasoning and I may have agreed with you, hence adding to your percieved intelligence? you have mastered the art of argument my friend. well done.

Smith is currently paid $13 mill. That's where his last contract topped out. Bargnani is currently making $10 mill and his final year tops out at $11.5 mill. Smith has a bigger impact on the game than Bargnani, so he gets and deserves more than Bargnani money. But definitely no max.

I would rather get Millsap for 4/44-46

But if multiple teams are offering the max to Smith I would bite the bullet and do the same. Jose and Bargs together make up a larger share of the cap and personally I'm not averse to amnestying Bargs to alleviate the kind of cap hit that would entail. Smoove would let us move another big like Amir or Ed plus a swingman (Acy, Anderson, Fields) or maybe picks for a good guard/forward like Granger if he's healthy, or an Ellis.

Lowry/DeRozan/Granger/Smith/Valanciunas
JLIII(Augustin?)/Ross/Fields/Acy/Ed

That's certainly a playoff team in the east. Possibly home court even. Even without the pie in the sky, just adding Smoove I think puts us clearly in the conversation for the 8th, maybe 7th seed.

why are you mokeys comparing Smith, and using his best case performance scenario as an argument, to the worst case scnario Bargnani is currently witnessing.

When Bargnani plays to his "potential" he is a fucking machine. Maybe he deserve s15 million then?

Please.

Judge Smith on Smith, not on what some gu got on another team. thats whats fucked about Pro sports.

Win Smith. Show um they need you, otherwise, extend at the paltry 13 million a year you get now....suffer, save your pennies Smith. Lifes hard at $160K a game.

Troof...as they say in the playground.

It makes more sense if we keep Bargs. Actually it don't make sense at all. Amir and Ed are not much worse on D
I used to like him but not anymore

~4/70 or ~5/95 (with Bird rights). Since the cap and other numbers are projected to go up by ~5%, it should be more like 4/74 and 5/100.

18-19 mil a year on average.
