I wouldn't mind a small patch. OR something very minimalist. It can't take away from the jersey so much

I'd think bell would be our most likely sponsor, like the team canada stuff

*assuming/hoping theres only one, a jersey plastered with ads would be stupid

Canadian Tire is already our biggest sponsor. That being said, Rogers and Bell do own the team so that's also a possibility.

lankganglia 02-16-2014 12:40 AM

i wouldn't mind a bell at the bottom, I can see them playling with the little canadian flag on the back, air canada and canadian tire stuff would barely be a change for that

The Diamond Scorpion 02-16-2014 08:20 AM

Once the sponsorship ads get put on the jerseys, I'll be done watching this crap. It's amazing how much professional sports has become a joke over the last few years.

I don't think its a bad decision.

It's not like there going to keep the ads on the jersey if u are going to buy one.

Metallikid 02-16-2014 09:40 AM

Actually Halph I'd be pretty darn surprised if they didn't. In fact I bet they'd be paying more for that than they would for just having the players wear them. Have you seen how much advertising goes on at the ACC for a Raps game? Jersey-ads wouldn't be a drop in the bucket if it were just that.

That's also a big reason why I think it sullies the sport. None of the North American major sports does it, it looks bad and bush league and it will end up bringing in what? A couple ten-day contract's worth? I hope they realize that it's not worth it.

And if I'm upset about the Raptors, can you imagine how Lakers or Celtics or Bulls fans would feel? Putting an ad on those classic jerseys really looks lame. Would the Yankees or Cardinals or Canadiens or Bruins ever pull such a move? (and keep in mind, Hockey needs that extra revenue)

It does ?....news to me

First off, the league has "labour peace" till 2022

Projected 12% salary cap increase next year = strong revenue growth this year

Add in the new massive Canadian tv deal next season = an additional $200 mill of revenue per year....which means the salary cap will go even higher

Six years ago the league brought in $2 Billion
In 2011-12 it brought in $3.2 Billion
Now the league has a plan in place to bring in another Billion a year in just 3 years

The league is doing just fine thank you very much

And for the record...if the NHL decided to go with sponsors on the jerseys i'd be just as pissed

jeffb 02-16-2014 11:20 AM

Hockey doesn't need it on the jersey's....

Aren't NBA league revenue's estimated to to be around 5.5- 6 Billion this season, why would this be needed? They want 7 Billion i guess?

Well, they need it more so than the NBA but really they plaster everything else as it is. Then again, so does the NBA to a lesser degree near the broadcast tables and under the basket. Overall i don't care as long as the jersey's aren't plastered with logo's/ads.

On a side note, those long sleeve shirts/jersey's will look a lot worse with ads on them. Hopefully when this is implemented those are no longer being worn.

NBA, NHL, NFL, MLS, MLB....i don't care which

If you start with one small sponsor on the team jersey, you're starting down a very slippery slope

And end up looking like this......:puke:

Yeah, wow that's ridiculous. I wouldn't mind so much, one on the shorts and one or two on the back of the Jersey. But hopefully that is it.

Yeah i know. They get a sniff of the revenue and they just want more. I really hope there is some restraint used but i agree, it isn't likely.
