This is a poll on RealGM and I'm curious to know what RF posters think about it.

7 years of 19 ppg and 9 rebounds, with 3 of those years under 60 games?

Chinese Sports Hall of Fame. Yes
Basketball Hall of Fame. No (Years in NBA were limited, never MVP, never DPOY limited playoff success and never led his Olympic team or country to great success internationally...even thought China is not that good)

No. If he were to be inducted you could make a case for someone like T-Mac as well which wouldn't be right.

In their prime, T-Mac >> Yao.

no. he didn't play enough and/or make his team good enough.

Injuries and his body's ability to handle an NBA season is something that he had no control over, but that's the reality of the situation.

Maybe, because of politics and basketball promotion in China and all Asia. He is the best Asian player of all time.

i think Yao's career is too short for him to be a HOFer. but having said that, if drazen petrovic is a HOFer you can certainly make a case for Yao

I'm not so quick to reject his candidacy.

Remember that the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame rewards Contributors in addition to Players. Despite his talent, it is certainly the case that Yao does not have the consistent statistical success necessary to qualify strictly as a Player. However, it might be possible that his contributions to expanding basketball on an international level is worthy of his being considered as a Contributor. I honestly don't know enough about the economics or politics to say anything on that matter.
