Scalabrine to become an assistant coach for the Bulls

Brian Scalabrine is a favorite to join the Bulls coaching staff for the upcoming season, according to a source.

Scalabrine would take the place of Rick Brunson, who left Chicago for a position with the Bobcats last month.

In other news Kwame Brown will become the new head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Wow, you guys are a tough crowd. What do you think the gap between being an allstar, and being a player of Scalabrine's level is, do you know what it is? Better question, do you know how very small it is?

Now that said, what do you think the gap between a guy like Scalabrine and any of you guys is?

Do you know how massive that gap is?

Maybe you should stop giving these guys such a hard time!

You're so full of shit.

Superjudge 08-28-2012 08:00 PM

Of course I am Jeff, of course I'm full of shit for thinking that constantly reading posts from kid that can't even play the game let alone understand it, calling out 10 year vets for being shitty, or even better "having a low basketball IQ" can be a bit much.

Oh yes OH SO full of shit.

My bad, continue on shit talking.

I wonder what all you braniac's would say to an NBA player in person.

Stonezz 08-28-2012 08:04 PM

I'm confused, were their any posts deleted? I don't see anyone hating on it.

Superjudge 08-28-2012 08:16 PM

Its nothing Stonez...nevermind. I was just bitching about people cracking on the Scalabrine story. More, "Alex" comparing the story to Kwame Brown coaching the Bobcats which was an insult or a failed attempt at humour.

So it got me thinking about how Sports fans like to put themselves above the people they worship, often denigrating or reducing a lessor players skills or intelligence as if the fan themselves is more qualified to either do the job, or, understand the game itself.

If you take time to think about it, it's actually incredibly funny. The armchair GMs and Coaches. The dudes with HS level smarts talking about how some NBA guy is too stupid to run a pick and roll..... stuff like that. it blows me away sometimes.

I don't mind a guy like Jeff, or Shadow or myself, or trane commenting on some more "morality/ maturity" type behaviour because lets face it, I'm 40 in about 4.5 hours, i have seem more life than a lot of young athletes. But for me to sit her and say I know more than a coach or a GM...that's insanity.

So at the end of the day, when I hear people shit talking Pro athletes about their own sport, it makes me laugh, people who do it are so out to lunch it isn't funny. Now we ALL do it from time to time, but, if we have the actual idea in our heads, all the time, that we know better..... well thats a problem.

jeffb 08-28-2012 08:24 PM

It was ONE comment. What ya gonna do, it's a message board. And haven't you been the one ripping Derozan, saying he isn't that good? Look, not trying to make a thing out of this because it simply isn't worth it. Good for Scalabrine and it should be left at that really.

Jesus christ, didn't mean to rustle your jimmies...

And who's the kid who can't play? Me?

dfunkie1 08-28-2012 10:08 PM

happy birthday SuperJudge!

i also kinda find it stupid how a player like scalabrine has become such a punchline. dude had a lengthy career being a solid bottom of the bench role player. never understood why people gave him so much negative attention. at the end of the day, he made more money than anyone here will and achieved a dream no one here will achieve. you all haters.

So the gap between Scalabrine (the modern era human victory cigar), and an NBA all-star is very small.

And yet.

Parity is dead because a few of these all-stars (who are apparently only a very small gap better then the worst players in the league) have joined teams.

If this gap is so very small - shouldn't a team full of pretty good near all-star players, be able to compete with all-stars and maybe overcome a minute gap in skill with superior teamwork and hustle?

Scal could be a 7th-8th man if he wasn't so out of shape. Good passer and IQ.

I think he was talking about understanding the game rather than their skill level.

I don't think he was.

playing in NBA is huge achievement, we should not underestimate these guys skills, work ethic and talent, however everything comes under the light when you hear how much money these guys make.
someone who's heating the bench for years is making over a mil a year on average is expected to compete harder for play time minutes with his team mates or at least be perfect in one or two aspects of the game (like FT percentage or rebounding or hustle-play) Scalabrine didn't show any of this in his past 5 years of NBA careeer

jermyzy 08-29-2012 06:24 PM

OT: But would you guys rather play as 12th man on a NBA team or as a starter/star in an overseas league?

Star overseas, more money. Come back to Canada afterwards and ball the fuck out.
